That's it really.
Same if you had the same effect with abandoning a habit or a thing.
Looking for inspiration.

Writing a diary almost every day. I started as I wanted an old looking, handwritten notebook as a prop for a photo and found it actually helped me. It also gave me a reason to use some of the beautiful notebooks I have bought!

I have cut out caffeine Monday to Thursday when working and other 3 days just have one first thing. To get my morning hit, I have a cold shower. I think this works because I only wash my hair once a week and I allow myself tepid water for that, but other days, as cold as it will go. Also try to go from evening meal to next day lunch with nothing but water on work days.

Wtfishappeningnow · 14/04/2023 23:13

Cutting down on sugar, highly recommend this

Not taking my phone or iPad into bed with me, just my book and nightlight.

Re smoothies, my favorite is simple, cup of water, cup of spinach, blend, then add a cup or so of frozen mango or a combination of frozen mango and frozen pineapple, and a banana.

It tastes like a tropical cocktail without the alcohol. It is so refreshing and I can’t taste the spinach at all. I don’t use protein powder or collagen powder or nuts or seeds.

Running upstairs as often as I can. If there are stairs at work. I try and run up as many flights as I can every hour

PilshardPillToSwallow · 14/04/2023 23:17

@vdbfamily it's not clear what you gain trim this

Wtfishappeningnow · 14/04/2023 23:18

Deleting Twitter. Drinking at least 2 litres of water a day

@SpringCherryTrees

🌻 I hear you. They really aren't important.
Unfortunately it takes a few crisis like these for these things to hit home.

But the small silver lining is 6 that it does put life into perspective

Well, the intermittent fasting is meant to be extremely good for gut health as it is good for our bodies to not have constant food being processed through our gut.
The cold shower every morning makes me feel wide awake and ready to start the day without needing caffeine so that is also healthy. I have a treat at the weekend when DH makes me a proper coffee with freshly ground beans each morning.
I am also slowly losing weight and keeping it off.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 14/04/2023 23:22

Have a shower every day. It is a low bar but living with depression, it makes a really big difference to a day. Even if you can’t do anything else, have a shower and step outside at least once.

Hiddendoor · 14/04/2023 23:24

I listen to brown noise tracks on Spotify when I'm working - cuts out my brain noise and allows me to focus.

I also take vitamins-
evening primrose oil + starflower oil keeps my PMT in check.
Zinc i am crediting for bringing my sense of smell back after covid

Oh and on the less effort side, I download a face exercise/yoga app. Ten mins a day following the app and my double chin has gone, skin much better and firmer and lips plumper. Do it while I'm watching TV in the evening

Can you recommend this app please?

Saurus72 · 14/04/2023 23:33

Completely agree on not saving things for best, I love using really nice shower gel/body lotion/hand cream every single day, small luxuries make my day better.

Now I mainly wfh I’ve also started yoga and some meditation/sound healing classes at a local studio I wouldn’t have had time for when I commuted every day. It’s such a positive impact on mind and body, it’s truly been transformational. It isn’t massively cheap as I pay for a monthly pass but I go 4-5 times a week so really good value. I’d give up a lot before stopping paying for this.

Finally getting around to getting an HRT prescription for peri menopausal symptoms - I felt like I was going insane last year and now I feel so calm and happy, amazing.

Sorry to all the easy way outers but it’s exercise again

build it in gently it doesn’t have to be brutal just something you do short repetitions of that uses as much of your body as possible such as squats or star jumps. Go from 5 to 10 to 15 a time quite quickly and then just do it for a while till you’re not out of breath after. Go up for 20 and then 25 and just do it when you go pee or brush your teeth or take your meds. Tie it in to things you’re doing to make it easier to remember.

it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to get a bit fitter and there will be health benefits every time you get your heart rate elevated and sustained for a period of time.

Cut out dairy.

Cut out sugar.

Cut out meat.

Cut out shampoo.

Realising that most things aren’t that important.

I just don’t sweat the small stuff or big stuff that much anymore. I am a single parent of a child with significant needs, loads of money worries, elderly parents who need a lot, and broken career to care for my child.

Just giving my child a hug some days, or just eating ice cream, or planting a new flower in the garden. It’s enough.

I wish I was more disciplined and wish I took care of myself more, but life is not passing me by and I know what’s important.

Bloody well said, Thank you, kind of in the same boat

Please could someone that’s started weightlifting at home point me in the right direction? I’m desperate to start this but overwhelmed with how to start!

Have a look at Annie Deadman fitness. She’s on YouTube, Instagram and also writes a column for Woman and Home. She runs a programme called Blast that is great for all abilities and I think there is one starting soon.
I did Blast and now do 4-5 strength/HIT workouts a week. I’m so much stronger and don’t have the aching bits I used to have!

Electric blanket under the top sheet on the bed. Absolute heaven when you first get in the bed

Decafflatteplease · 14/04/2023 23:55

Reading . I try to read just for 20 mins a day. I love that I don't think about anything else for those 20 mins just what's going on in my book

LondonSouth28 · 15/04/2023 00:07

Airfryer
Heated blankets on all beds
Yoga classes every day and getting really into yoga
Massive overhaul of diet
Botox
No alcohol
HRT
On my list to do: drink more water and sleep more.

An Instant Pot

I have a disability and it's so easy for me to use I've felt like a chef ever since

I was just going to say this.

After buying my Instant Pot all in one pressure cooker etc etc. I haven't bought any jarred food. All sauces whether they be tomato, curry, gravies are all made from scratch. No added anything. All frozen in batches.

I've lost over a stone in 2 months and I can only put it down to eating no or very little processed food. I stopped buying milk too as that became quite addictive (weird I know) but I could easily chug 4 pints a day.

Frozen veg and just freezing almost everything.
