Always like these threads as I get lots of inspiration. Tonight is simple though - chicken breast kievs with triple cooked chips & petitpois

So for tonight's iftar we're having pillau rice, chickpea and coconut curry, veggie curry, veggie kebabs, veggie samosas, dips, daal and salad. We've got friends coming round so we're cooking all the posh stuff tonight. We've got an assortment of fruit, cake and ice cream for dessert.

@MissMarplesbag Can I ask a question if you don’t mind? (Of course feel free not to answer) but when you say you’ll break your fast with fruits, and then eat your meal and your dessert, is it just like a three course meal or are there gaps?

It’s a personal choice even within families who’ll break their fast at the same time. Some will leave the table after dates and a drink, others will add some fruit to that as well as Samboosa and other little fried delicacies before going off to do something else. And others will then eat everything at once. We’re very much a family of put everything on the table and people can decide what they want to do. Usually though no one would have desert till a while later. It’s usually something very light like a crème caramel.

This is yesterdays menu as I had all of my 8 grandchildren here for Iftar. Tonight I just had bits and pieces from the fridge.

Drinks - Laban, water, Vimto, Mango Smoothie, various fresh fruit juices from the local juice shop.

Starters -

Fruit and Dates

homemade Kutlesi which are thumb sized fish cakes made with fresh tuna. Kutlesi is a KiSwahili word.

Homemade cheese and spinach samboosa
cheese samboosa
chicken samboosa
fresh coconut chutney
fresh tamarind chutney
Nana’s green soup.

Main course

Homemade lamb curry with chapati
Bokoboko which is an all in one meal of bulgar wheat and chicken cooked together and served with a porridge consistency.
Various homemade slider burgers on mini brioche bread rolls, salad, and for one grandchild at her request cup corn and avocados.
We also had a spinach and coconut curry called M’Boga.

Desert was more fruit, homemade Madeira cake and ice creams/lollies.

@PollyThePixie i don't mind the question, it's a good one. We have water, dates and fruit to start with. Then we'll have a half an hour break for prayers & quiet meditation. Then we'll have our main meal, I find this gap helps to prevent stuffing yourself & bloating. Which can happen if you've not eaten all day, it's all about pacing yourself. You can eat until sunrise the next morning so it's best not to go mad at iftar.
