Mundane words you hate the sound of....

Is there a word you hate? When you say it, it just grates on you just irritates you?

For me, its the word "bottle".

I hate what it looks like, I hate saying the word, to me it just sounds like a silly word and irritates me when I have to use it.

Probably makes no sense, but please tell me I'm not alone with an irrational hatred of a mundane word.

midsomermurderess · 12/04/2023 22:21

I think ‘afters’ so much worse than pudding. In fact, pudding is quite plumptiously pleasing.

@Casdentwo what about the way Americans say parmesan?

Parm-eh-zjon

It's literally not even how it's said in Italian so I have no idea why they so this

MYSTERIOUSGIRLONLINE · 12/04/2023 22:02

I don't like it when people use the posh way off saying words in a sentence, say for an example I'd say stupid and someone might say uncouth etc. It grinds on my nerves as I have to either Google what it means or say to them "Huh, what's that mean?!" Lol. I'm a bit of a ditz really lol. My hub does it to me all the time to wind me up lol.

Sorry

Hub - or hubby

And lol, pmsl, etc (we have emojis now)

InsertSomethingMotivationalHere · 12/04/2023 22:30

"Ass" when said by any English person meaning "arse."
"Scrummy," "yummy," "hubby" and other twee nightmares.
"Cockwomble," "wankspangle" and any other cringey, made-up insult.

Sar90 · 12/04/2023 22:34

"Meal" hater too here. Also detest the word ''Cuppa''.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 12/04/2023 22:36

IglesiasPiggl · 12/04/2023 21:51

Goblet. It sounds so gluttonous!

Goblet - I picture a tiny mouth.

browbrows · 12/04/2023 22:38

ShowOfHands · 12/04/2023 21:57

I hate most words associated with or describing food. Can't bear yum or tasty or people talking about nibbling on things or choking things down or stuffing faces. Likewise, descriptions of cooking which involve affectations such as slinging things in pans or throwing things in pots or bunging things in ovens. These people also pop things on plates or throw together a meal. See also abbreviations like jacket pots. And picky bits make me feel ill. And treat? Bleurgh.

It's all so bloody visceral, twee and/or affected.

In short, you have an aversion to Jamie Oliver? 😂

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 12/04/2023 22:38

Can't stand any word pronounced with an 'F' that starts with a 'th'. 🤢

Thursdayschild7 · 12/04/2023 22:42

Sweet treat
Munch
Soiled
In 'Good Cheer'
Mains

Icantbelieveitsnotnutter · 12/04/2023 22:42

"Bottomless brunch" makes me cringe.

LunaNorth · 12/04/2023 22:46

A lot of mine are food-based Americanisms.

I can’t bear the dropping of the connective ‘and’ in their soup flavours, eg ‘vegetable beef’. It makes my stomach clench in embarrassment.

I don’t like their pronunciation of ‘’erbs’.

’Pizza pie’ makes me cringe. It’s not a fucking pie.

‘Over-easy’. Where does that even come from? They just make shit up.

Worst of all, ‘Kraft Dinner’. Stop.

HangingOver · 12/04/2023 22:46

Actually I hate meal too. Especially in restaurant reviews when people say"My meal was.... And my wife's meal..." Makes me angry 😂
