Is there a word you hate? When you say it, it just grates on you just irritates you?

For me, its the word "bottle".

I hate what it looks like, I hate saying the word, to me it just sounds like a silly word and irritates me when I have to use it.

Probably makes no sense, but please tell me I'm not alone with an irrational hatred of a mundane word.

Goblet. It sounds so gluttonous!

Goodread1 · 12/04/2023 21:52

I find it weird 😕 and confused why in our society certain foods and drinks are described and or have Names that are ridiculous,!!!

described as a grown up drink which is mix of Alchol and pop it's called Pussy

I used to see this drink in town home bargains

Also a particular Costas coffee A flat latte or a skinny Latte,

Dirty Fries 🍟

Sex on The Beach grown up Cocktails ect

Does anybody 🤔 else have think like I do aswell as weirdly ridiculous 🙄 Names for drinks 🍸 and food then?

alphajuliet123 · 12/04/2023 21:53

Pregnant. Such an ugly word for a lovely thing. Womb as well, takes weirdly long to say.

Goodread1 · 12/04/2023 21:53

Or L.o.l 😄

shudders

ShowOfHands · 12/04/2023 21:57

I hate most words associated with or describing food. Can't bear yum or tasty or people talking about nibbling on things or choking things down or stuffing faces. Likewise, descriptions of cooking which involve affectations such as slinging things in pans or throwing things in pots or bunging things in ovens. These people also pop things on plates or throw together a meal. See also abbreviations like jacket pots. And picky bits make me feel ill. And treat? Bleurgh.

It's all so bloody visceral, twee and/or affected.

Goodread1 · 12/04/2023 21:59

I agree with you@alphajuliet123

Hadn't thought about it like that , but now I think about it

Attire. It has its uses, but it is so insufferably pompous

I see your attire and raise you garb

Ooh, good one!

MYSTERIOUSGIRLONLINE · 12/04/2023 22:02

I don't like it when people use the posh way off saying words in a sentence, say for an example I'd say stupid and someone might say uncouth etc. It grinds on my nerves as I have to either Google what it means or say to them "Huh, what's that mean?!" Lol. I'm a bit of a ditz really lol. My hub does it to me all the time to wind me up lol.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 12/04/2023 22:11

Keeping your eyes peeled.
Pronouncing tooth "tuth"
Pronouncing tongue "tong"
When people talk about pregnancy that's overdue as the baby needing more time to "cook" NOOO WHAT THE FUCK!

Also when people start a sentence long convoluted excuse with "obviously" when it really isn't fucking obvious because this is the first time I have ever spoken to you and I really don't care why you missed our engineer, let's just get it rebooked.

Willowtre1 · 12/04/2023 22:12

'Meal'

As in evening meal or 'we went out for a meal'.

It's a grotesque word and I hate to hear it used.

emmathedilemma · 12/04/2023 22:16

flange
(surprisingly commonly used in my line of work but either makes me feel queasy or giggle like a silly school girl)
