A day in Leicester City Centre

I'm in Leicester for a day qthis week.
I used to go there regularly ... 25 years ago
The cathedral is closed so I can't go to see Richard
I know the shopping centre I used to wander around in closed.
I just to like to stare and the door knobs and light switches in Broughtons, but they moved.
What are the highlights now?

Delish does the best breakfast cobs.

I tried the Full English Jacket Potato ONCE on my lunch break at work, spent the whole afternoon desperate for a nap to sleep off the huge amount of food.

I walk past it on the way to work and have to resist going in every day. I always get a breakfast cob on a Friday though 😂

Is the Very Bazaar still there? That was my favoured haunt in the late 80s 😁

Is the Van Gogh immersive experience still running? We loved it.

I went not long ago, I think they keep extending it. I've been twice now.

Another vote for the Richard III visitor centre! Spent a couple of very happy hours there last time I visited Leicester.

Highcross shopping centre is a very pleasant environment, though it's mostly chain shops.

We enjoyed eating at Middletons.

Rich himself (he's my homie so I'm allowed to call him Rich) is out of bounds but the visitor centre is quite interesting. The Guildhall, which is a stone's throw away and one of the oldest buildings in the city, is also worth a visit. Gelato Village, on the edge of the St Martins shopping area and very close to both museums, is my top tip for delicious snacks.

Harrimans is a lovely home and interiors shop. Just down the road from the Richard III centre. No, I don’t work there!

I'd love a day in Leicester I lived there for a while in the noughties. I'd want a wander through the lanes and my lunch in the fat cat.

That’s a lovely shop.

I’m having nostalgic fits for the Good Earth veggie restaurant. Which was always mildly mad and felt like the same stuff had been on the menu in forever.

Yep - still there! I haven't been in for years but it's exactly the same, with the yellow and red awnings outside.

Silver Arcade worth a visit. Museums as mentioned previously. Go to Bradgate Park, Newtown Linford end. Park and walk to cropston end , back again , reward yourselves with a trip to Jades Tea Rooms … perfect 🤩

Ahhh we'd get the bus into town and spend ages browsing in there. I was so envious of any girls wearing tie-dye skirts with little mirrors/bells from there.
