Now rehearsing conversations in my head. What would you have said.

The Tories were voted in on the promise of a referendum. Had they not been, would they have won the election? Possibly, possibly not

Thats the nub of it, Cameron only offered the ref because it guaranteed him the support in the election. He did it for himself, selfishly because it was the easy ticket to another election win.

And then has the gall to say he’s glad he did it.

I’ve thought about this often, and can’t think of anything which wouldn’t get me arrested by his security other than “You’ll go down in the history books as the person who allowed this shit show to happen”.

That's actually something very good to say.

heldinadream · 10/04/2023 19:05

Well when I was on one of the big remain marches and the flow of people was clogged up near Downing Street and I was in danger of very badly needing a pee and felt like I was being crushed by the mass of bodies, I relieved my growing anxiety and frustration by shouting out THIS IS ALL CAMERON'S FAULT and it got a big laugh so I'd try This is all your bloody fault David, all of it, and hope for another laugh, OK not that last bit...

Florenz · 10/04/2023 19:05

There was going to be a referendum sooner or later. There probably should have been one many years before as that would have stopped UKIP gaining traction. Tony Blair promised to hold one then reneged on it, I think Remain would probably have won back then.

I stood next to Michael Heseltine many decades when he was in the Tory leadership contest again John Major. It was in the corner shop near his house in Belgravia and he was buying Cornflakes! (I worked in the next street).

'How's it going?' I asked. 'Very well I think' was the reply.

I’ve never voted Tory in my life, but I fucking love Heseltine right now.

There should never have been a referendum because it was never a sensible question to allow the population a choice on. Governments are meant to do what is best for the country, and the is no way Brexit could ever be best.

Cameron failed the country by allowing a referendum.

Oblomov23 · 10/04/2023 17:44

I blame him for Brexit.

As opposed to those who voted for it. The country wanted to decide, he let them.
I voted remain btw.

TheCaddieisaBaddie · 10/04/2023 19:13

You couldn't just be happy fucking a pig could you? You had to fuck the country instead. Oink 🐷

Mañanarama · 10/04/2023 19:14

Of all the prime ministers we’ve had since I was an adult, Cameron was the worst and messed the country up the most. Brexit has been a complete disaster, we’ve basically pissed off ALL our neighbours by bring arrogant and uppity.

ohfook · 10/04/2023 19:20

I wouldn't hassle him if he's off duty but I'd love to have the chance to ask him what he was thinking allowing the brexit referendum to go ahead without having some sort of plan in place for Northern Ireland first? That peace was so hard to achieve. It took years if not decades of work and he just sold it down the river.

PurpleParrotfish · 10/04/2023 19:33

It’s not just the Brexit shit show, it’s also austerity. The current state of the NHS, schools, the criminal justice system etc - Cameron and Osborne took a wrecking ball to them with their cuts.

Because the Tories have been so appalling since, people often forget that it was under Cameron and Osborne that the welfare state was shredded to the extent that food banks became a significant thing.

Mxflamingnoravera · 10/04/2023 19:33

I did that on the tube! I realised it was Cameron and he saw me clock him, he gave a smug grin and at that point I pretended I'd no idea who he was and looked at my book.

Did you stop being an adult when Boris and Liz popped by?

Of course he's glad he did it. He got to be prime minister, gets a lifetime payment for it, and it means he beat Labour, which is pretty important when you're the Conservative leader

Lol. Cameron totally started the mess we’re in. I’d rather have Johnson back than him and that’s saying something (and I’d forgotten about Liz Truss!)

cunningartificer · 10/04/2023 19:40

I met him in a professional capacity when he was PM and was shocked by his arrogance. What shocked me most I think was the contemptuous way he treated a colleague of his who actually dared to disagree with him in front of us. So on the one hand I think that nothing anyone said to him as a random member of the public would get through the carapace of Eton privilege. From another perspective the man has lost a child and there's nothing I could do or say to him that would be worse than that so overall he has my reluctant pity.

GoodChat · 10/04/2023 19:40

@Mañanarama she is very forgettable Grin

AmandaHoldensLips · 10/04/2023 19:41

"Well done, David. I hope you're proud of yourself."
(with a withering evil death stare)

CrapBucket · 10/04/2023 19:48

These poshos don’t give a shit what plebs like us think of them, there’s nothing you can say to cut through into their soul and create an epiphany.

But maybe ‘thanks for nothing you Brexit wanker’ if he’s not with his kids.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 10/04/2023 19:49

UnDruidlyWords · 10/04/2023 17:40

I had the same once. It was when he was still PM and I found myself within slapping distance of him, could have just reached out and done it. It was very tempting!

Is that you Theresa?

booboo57 · 10/04/2023 19:57

Some context may be helpful. Dh just popped into a famous Seafood restaurant to see if we could book in. Jolly party emerged from the restaurant and stood next to me waiting with dog. At least one sc withbthem but no decernible security. Sam had to go back in for coat. So lots of chit chat whilst they were waiting and plans for the rest of the day. It just makes me so mad that he created so much chaos and hardship and there he is living the highlife.

@cunningartificer , I had such high hopes for him being a voice for children/adults ith special needs
Doing away with or at least minimising all the crap the parents have to face to just get what their child should have
He disappointed me

AxolotlOnions · 10/04/2023 20:00

"Well, you fucked that up, didn't you?"
