6 foot trampoline or other gymnastics or fitness equipment on the rooftop balcony?

Can someone help me please? I would love to have a trampoline, I’m very active, but I also have a disability, live abroad, and I’m trying to make things slightly more bearable. I am in the UK for a short time, and I’m trying to think about how to make life a bit easier, especially since I am… A first time homeowner and really struggling to get used to things.

I do a lot of gymnastics, and I have quite a large balcony and live in a place where there is a lot of sun. If I can order a 6 foot trampoline, is there anything I can put underneath of it to make it less noisy? Saying that, my building is full of children, so maybe once they find out, my apartment will become the popular one in the building… I will get some thing with the Safetynet around it. for the summer, if I have an inflatable pool, would I just need to bring it inside to empty it in the bath or something? How does this work?

if I were to buy those indoor gymnastics bars, I am 5 feet tall and about 90 pounds, would it be a good idea? I can’t access a gym easily, so my home needs to be my comfort zone and a place where I can do the things I love. right now, I’m going through hell so trying to make things slightly easier and this would help a lot.

A trampoline, even a "safe" one with netting around the perimeter, could be deadly to people on the streets below. When a strong wind comes through, even if you think it's secured, could go flying. Not a good idea.

Can you visit or call a (serious) trampoline shop and ask for their advice?

PuttingDownRoots · 10/04/2023 03:25

Have you thought about boxing? Not fighting, but the fitness type with a punch bag. It can be very satisfying.

You can buy the large EVA foam tiles for gym equipment. I think you would have to keep it indoors as the summer heat is likely to make them over heat.

I think the first windy day and a trampoline would be gone off the balcony.

Could you get a Peloton bike so you could burn off energy and also connect with other people?

I also think really hardcore yoga is a good call- that balcony would be perfect.

Are there any beams inside that you could attach a yoga trapeze to? That's loads of fun and a great (and quiet) way to move around!

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 10/04/2023 08:03

No to a trampoline as too much of a risk of a strong wind blowing it off the balcony.

No to the paddling pool too really. Once they're full you can't move them. You'd be continually scooping the water in a bucket to pour down the sink. If it punctured and went down, where would the water escape to outside (through to neighbours?)

I would definitely put some sort of matting under any exercise equipment to help stop it slipping on the tiles.

Please don’t ever trampoline alone, it was really forced into us at school trampoline club. You need a spotter ie a person one each side to push you back onto the middle if you bounce wrong. Unbelievably dangerous to consider a full size trampoline you can do a forward somersault on, on your own.
And have a quick Google for trampoline injuries…… a friend was really upset none of us wanted to go to the nearest trampoline place on her birthday, we all said we’d see the bouncers after in the next door Costa.

If you have an inflatable pool you won't be able to move it once it has water in it. I would guess that the balcony has some sort of drain and I would run a hose to that although you would probably need a small pump.

Bear in mind that an inflatable pool full of water can weigh as much as a small car. (950 litres = 950 kilos = VW Polo - well almost)

Thank you for all your replies, some great ideas here. I’m not sure if all of this equipment can be found easily in Greece, especially in the area where I live. I will ask on the foreigners group on Facebook if anyone knows for example where to find the foam tiles and if I can find a trapeze for yoga. If I can get a trapeze, I don’t have beams on the ceiling, it’s a Greek home, so very Mediterranean tiles and open and bright kind of thing. Is there anywhere else I could hang the yoga trapeze? I could eventually get someone to do some work on the home, but I don’t know how we would arrange to hang the trapeze.

Yes a trampoline on a balcony is a really good idea, what could possibly go wrong? Confused

Hellokittymania · 10/04/2023 09:48

@GoodVibesHere well you live and you learn, and you don’t find out unless you ask. I’m trying to find a trampoline park in another city, but I will have to find someone to go with me since it’s not some thing I can do on my own in a place like a trampoline park.

unless you have bought a home in a foreign country when you also have a visual impairment… It’s a lot easier said than done believe me and it takes time to find where everything is and how to make things feel like home. I also can’t do a lot of activities on my own, so I need to make my home a place where I really enjoy and I can do things I enjoy

Op just want to say it's a very brave move to move abroad when you have a disability and your on your own.

Hellokittymania · 10/04/2023 10:10

Sugar-free, thank you. I will get there eventually, just one day at a time and a lot of patients.
