Just so many dogs nowadays, or is it just me?

Away for the weekend at a typical British seaside town in Anglia and am quite shocked at just how many people have dogs now. Am sure there never used to be quite this many, or maybe I am just more observant now I have a child who isn’t keen (on bigger dogs).

Reckon I’ve seen well in the hundreds today, I’d say at least every other family or couple had a dog. So many labradoodles / toy poodles, cockerpoo’s, pugs everywhere.

Some people looked to be almost dragging dogs around the shops in really busy / small lanes of endless gift shops, then waiting for friends/family outside shops (as no dogs allowed) some with fairly stressed looking dogs😢

Is this the lockdown puppy effect in full force now? Just everyone and their pal has a dog now.

This was followed by much laughter and 'oh ha ha isn't he hilarious' by it's half-wit owner
I wonder if he'd carry on laughing if you grabbed food off his plate & fed it to the dog @WillowtreeHouse ?!

I think we should not interfere with nature. I think we should not have pets. I think we should not kill billions of farmed animais just to keep pets alive.

Excellent point Tropical

So they can bark all ruddy day and upset the neighbours !

Not at all, their dogs should be trained to be quiet, if they aren't it is the owners that are at fault and they need to be told in no uncertain terms that you are not going to listen to a barking mutt

Yes, so no healthcare then, as that is also interfering with nature.

I shall not bother with my night shift then, sod em'.

Following Tropical's logic, stay at home then.

Yes, I know what you meant.

So glad I've not got one. Stayed somewhere to dog sit, took this dog and two family ( not mine) dogs for a walk. They were well behaved and on the lead all the time. Got back and thought that was nice, my work here is done, would not want the responsibility.

They should invent something like myxomatosis to deal with the overpopulation of dogs like they did with rabbits in Australia.

What a completely evil comment.

Our local pub is full of them at weekends

Feral dogs are not a problem though.

Like a PP said, evil comment. The real threat to anything on this planet is humans.

I love dogs but am still rather disconcerted by the number of dogs I regularly see in John Lewis. What's that all about?

I was in Peter Jones at 11.00 last week and counted 7 dogs - at one time you didn't see dogs in stores.

But arguably a human with a dog is worse for the planet than a human without a dog.

Obviously poorly socialised. Can you not interact with humans?

It’s just that dogs are essentially nicer then humans - obviously!

Exmouth yesterday. My grandsons were really disconcerted by the large dogs off the lead that ran up to them all the time, and the 5 year old asked why there were so many dogs? 2 year old throwing pebbles into the waves knocked over by one. It was a bit like a militia dog unit sweeping across the beach to chase villains, almost wanting to exert power and terror.

It has all gone too far.

Ricco12 · 09/04/2023 22:19

I went to a Easter event at NT property

I was angered to see lots of small doodle type dogs on extendable leads with owners having zero control over them , on full extension doing as they pleased in amounts lots of kids.

Dogs in busy places should be trained to walk at owners side and not be a nuisance to others

It boils my blood.

I did have my dog with me but I've taught him to always walk almost against my leg.

If you dog won't walk to heel it should be in busy area with kids.

Extension leads offer dogs absolutely no training whatsoever. They just allow a dog to do as it pleases .

We were in a cafe a few weeks ago and a woman was letting her dog lick the plate that she had just eaten off.😵‍💫

Nah, a human with a child and SUV is.

And? Other people put the cutlery in their mouths. Or do you not have any faith in the café cleaning it all properly?

I wouldn’t let my dogs do that in a cafe but its no more ick that using cutlery that’s used by everyone. They put it in their mouth, think where those mouths have been. 😳 You could drive yourself insane with hygiene, I find it best not to think of it. It’s all washed anyway. You’ll come into contact with much, much worse.

So we are agreed. No dog no child no SUV is best?
Pass the polish for my halo please

Depends what chemicals are in that polish 😉

I have nothing against dogs.
Our village is full of dog owners.

I'm not a huge fan of dogs in pubs while people are eating, but as long as they're not nicking my food I'm not that fussed.

I do agree there's alot more now.
Can't say I'd want one though.
