Annoying people in the airport/plane

I bloody hate early flights. I don't have the patience to deal with people that early in the morning. This morning's experience included:

  • People walking really slowly in groups through the airport, so no one else could get round them, stopping dead every so often to consult with each other about where to get breakfast
  • The people sitting behind me on the plane talking the entire way, including through the safety briefing
  • The person playing crappy music on their phone speaker
  • The person whistling on the plane. Whistling FFS

Only an hour-long flight and I can get off now, thank goodness.

Wheely luggage grrrr!!!
What's wrong with that?

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 08/04/2023 20:52

@Throwncrumbs fast track security and at the gate are completely different things . Perhaps it's not offered at all airports ? Birmingham airport you can pay to go through a separate lane at security and miss the long snaking line . Maybe only worth it at busy times but it only cost us £5 pp (just me and DH). Last year we were in that queue for an hour .

Don’t get the ‘recliner’ hatred. I mean, it’s not necessary on a sub-5hr flight but 5 or over and I’m reclining after food service. I want to sleep through Other People.

Anyone watching/listening to something on a flight without headphones. I do not understand why they don't announce at the start that this is not allowed and empower staff to tell people to use headphones or turn off.

InMySpareTime · 08/04/2023 20:59

Wheely luggage is annoying when people fully extend the handle then drag it behind them at about 20-30 degrees from horizontal. They wander blithely about, oblivious to the 4ft exclusion zone they create behind them. Just make the handle shorter and pull it at about 45-60 degrees like a normal person.
The vertical, 4 wheeled luggage is not misused this way as dragging it breaks the wheels and scuffs the case.

But you are encroaching in the people behind you, they are stuck with a seat in their space its claustrophobic for me I hate it !

When someone in front reclines their seat and then watches that film where Emma Thompson has sex all the way through and then someone sticks their feet through onto my arm rest.

Oh that sounds recent 😂

Then recline. I mean; on night flights, they turn the lights down; the airline expect you to recline and snooze.

The screen pops out to adjust for this.

I had a lady picking dead skin off her feet next to me last week🙃

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/04/2023 22:01

I'm nominating the woman last year who, when everyone stood up in the aisles after landing waiting for the doors to open, asked me to let her pass if I was just going to stand there and not let people through! (complete with rolled eyes as if I was holding up the line).

I don't normally even bother getting up at that point, but the people I was travelling with were keen to get moving.

I told her there was nowhere to go, which is why we weren't moving. She pushed past me anyway, then immediately got stuck behind the person in front of me.

typopro · 08/04/2023 23:43

Just yesterday the lady in front recliner suddenly with no warning. My glass of water, and glass of wine balancing in my tray promptly spilt on my lap.

I pulled her up on it, basically making the point that whilst I don't mind if she reclines, it is just best manners to check first ( especially as the bar service has just been round) that the person behind is ok with her doing it?

I got so much abuse from her. It made gif an awkward flight after that avoiding eye contact

I'm cabin crew, most of our aircraft have reclining seats. We will ask people to put seats upright for the meal service, but other than that it's perfectly acceptable.
What's more, we actually have very few complaints over it.

Nsky62 · 09/04/2023 00:41

I need special assistance, cos of Parkinson’s.
i normally use easyJet to Spain , easy

That's probably only because they don't want to spend the flight feeling uncomfortable around the other passenger. They're probably silently seething. No one likes confrontation.

rewilded · 09/04/2023 10:36

Everyone hates recliners - as cabin crew surely you realise this lol.

They really don't - it's a Mumsnet anomaly. To be fair, I'm talking mainly about long haul flights when customers like to rest for a while.

Okbyethen · 09/04/2023 13:03

People laden with several pieces of hand luggage they can barely carry it AND when there's not enough room in the overheads and the crew have to try and make room 🤬

Same goes for heavy hand luggage - if you can't lift it into the overhead with no help ITS TOO HEAVY.

limitedperiodonly · 09/04/2023 13:52

The worst was while I was waiting for my iPad to be checked was a man who tried to get a screwdriver and a Stanley knife through security. He was furious he wasn’t allowed. They were hidden in socks and then leather gloves. That was just last month.

@Stravawindow I shouldn't laugh, but I couldn't help it. Did Security let him go through after they'd confiscated his items? That is definitely the kind of incident that I'd imagine would get you detained for further questioning?

Agree with this. Pay for checked luggage you tightwad.

It was the person doing disgusting farts in front of me on a long haul flight that really pissed me off. And they were giggling about it.

Disgusting. Hopefully they were silent ones . I would have kicked their seat continuously.

Beanfield2023 · 09/04/2023 14:24

MyOwnVolt · 08/04/2023 09:34

The man with the seriously stinky feet who was sitting behind me on a recent 14hr flight from Singapore!

Ugh I bet the pig had taken his shoes off .

Mushroo · 08/04/2023 09:37

I know reclining is controversial, but I could have murdered the woman in front of me who reclined the entire 8 hour flight despite already having extra leg room as she was by the door.

I got a terrible headache as the tv screen was then so close to my face. It was awful.

I would have informed the flight attendant and got them to deal with it
