What do you wear on a flight

Normally I'm a joggers and t shirt sweatshirt kinda person comfy and unlikely to want to wear them on the trip so can handle the plane grime.

But I'm always envious of those lovely looking ladies at 5am checking in in a maxi dress and denim jacket and sandals. Sometimes a jaunty trilby. Elegantly styles with a Gucci disco.

Sometimes I am able to in august but I'm going to canaries tomorrow and it's a four hour flight, Chilly here and warm there. And even then it's a pair of culottes and a t shirt.

I'm always far to hot even in thin joggers when I get to the other end. And I feel unquestionably and soften unable to change quickly scruffy!

Why not just roll up a floaty dress in your hand luggage and change before landing? Still good with trainers and a nice sweatshirt or jumper on top/on the shoulders. Don't forget your sunglasses!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/04/2023 11:07

I'm wearing wafty cheesecloth trousers, sandals, and a white shirt. I'll have a chunky cardigan to put on this side which I can take off there. And I'm wearing my sunhat because I'm on miniscule luggage allowance so it won't fit.

ShirleyPhallus · 07/04/2023 11:10

short haul I wear a dress on the plane because they’re hotter than the sun and I can take the jacket off. Jaunty hat would get squashed in my suitcase.

But for long haul I’m leggings and a sweatshirt as they tend to be colder

I wear trousers or jeans, cardigan, long sleeved top and denim jacket usually. I get cold easily.

I came home in shorts once and was frozen all flight never again.

usernother · 07/04/2023 11:40

I wear plain joggers, with a plain tshirt. Always both the same colour. In winter I wear trainers, in summer I wear chunky sandals. I have a sweat jacket I wear around my waist. I always have my hair blow dried and make up on. I think I look casual smart.

Soonthen · 07/04/2023 11:42

Black maxi dress, scarf, sandals. I saw a ‘floaty’ women years ago and thought yes I’m having that. So at least I look together even when stressed.

MumOf2workOptions · 07/04/2023 13:11

I just put a change of clothes in my hand luggage - I tend to wear something warmer like jeans and a Chucky cardigan then just put a dress or something in my bag!

Natsku · 07/04/2023 13:15

I wear clothes with lots of pockets so I can fit as much as possible on my person, so I can fit more into my luggage.
With a bumbag for passports and boarding cards.

Practical, not fashionable Grin

Thanks everyone!

I've planned a jersey midi black dress with a denim jacket and tevas. I don't a a jaunty trilby as of yet!

I'll probably wear harems and a tshirt and denim jacket! And trainers.

There's a big thing about not wearing sandals on a flight Confused

Wide leg high waisted trousers with either a fitted tshirt / vest and a cross body bag.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 08/04/2023 15:13

I tend to wear thin joggers, T shirt, hoody or other jacket and trainers. I carry shorts and sandals in my hand luggage and change in the toilets at the arrival airport .

Andylion · 08/04/2023 15:34

OP, why shouldn’t we wear sandals in a flight?

dew141 · 08/04/2023 15:38

I love these threads as there's always one along the lines of box-fresh, crisp white cotton shirt, Tibetan cashmere jumper and organic linen trousers.

My outfit would be whatever looks least grubby after a week of holiday wear.

Mercurial123 · 08/04/2023 16:01

I always wear sandals on a flight to avoid swollen feet. Why would it be an issue?

CordyLines · 08/04/2023 16:07

Depends on the destination and the time of year. Winter for me is comfortable (elastic waisted OMG) trousers, t shirt and fleece. Raincoat in the underseat bag.
Summer is light cotton mix (elastic waist again ha ha) trousers, t shirt and a no crease shirt for over it all just in case.

Shoes are trainers both seasons. Comfort is the key, style be damned, I'll do that when I get there.

BarbaraofSeville · 08/04/2023 16:45

It's never occurred to me to want to avoid 'plane grime'.

At this time of year I would wear jeans, trainers and a hoody otherwise I'm cold and it helps max the luggage allowance as it means I can wear these items in the evening on holiday if I get a bit cold.

Augend23 · 08/04/2023 16:48

I usually wear a maxi dress with my lovely summer hat, and then top it off with ugly trainers because they take all take up too much room in my hand luggage. Plus a rucksack carefully sized for the maximum space ryanair allows under the seat.

80sMum · 08/04/2023 17:25

I would wear as much as possible, to keep the weight of my luggage down! So, usually wear jeans, t-shirt, cardigan, hiking boots, fleece jacket and a rain jacket! Of course, I'm usually sweltered when I arrive!

Always! Grin

I reality I'm in M&S joggers and primark sweater!

Safety, same with flip flips. Think of all the debris in an accident. Would you want to walk on broken glass or bits of metal in sandals?

cherrypied · 09/04/2023 07:50

I don't know what not wearing sandals is a thing I saw it on social media "things not to do in a flight" and from then on thought people would judge me if I wore sandals on a flight Confused

Literally no one cares what shoes you’re wearing on a flight!

it is vanishingly unlikely that you’ll ever be involved in a plane crash so wear whatever shoes you want

QueSyrahSyrah · 09/04/2023 08:01

Long-haul I quite often wear running leggings because they handle the varying temperatures pretty well and they're comfy. Cashmere socks in hand luggage for the flight.

Last summer short haul I wore a long floaty maxi skirt with a T-shirt and denim jacket and that was comfy and a little more stylish. Although one of the border guards thought I was pregnant so perhaps not as slender as I'd hoped for

BarbaraofSeville · 09/04/2023 08:02

And also vanishingly unlikely that if there is a crash that you'll A. survive, B. Still be wearing whatever shoes you have on (even in road accidents people generally get knocked out of their shoes) and C. Be capable of 'walking around'. If your legs are still attached to your body they'll likely be smashed into bits.

Just wear whatever shoes you are comfortable in.

All of that ⬆️

If I survived the kind of plane crash that resulted in a debris field then honestly I think a bit of broken glass would be the very last of my worries.
