Peeing during the night

LaPerduta · 04/04/2023 12:59

Can anyone suggest why I have started needing to get up to pee several times during the night?

I'll try to list salient points:
Female, 48 (but not menopausal)
No kidney issues
No UTIs/STDs
Bladder of steel during the day
No pelvic floor issues
Do not drink tea, coffee, Coke or alcohol
Not on any medication that should cause this
Not overweight
Light sleeper, but not insomniac

Any ideas welcome!

@LaPerduta No need to get snippy about this. You've clearly sought medical opinion and now you are decrying the attempts of the hive to solve your problem where docs couldn't. My two pennies worth id that maybe you are mot sleeping deeply enough. Try taking a magnesium tablet before bed. I was getting up several times but now - not at all.

crazeecatlady · 04/04/2023 14:40

is not id

Bingo! Well, almost. I've had a double oophorectomy so am on HRT. This hasn't been altered for at least a decade (and I have had oestrogen levels checked and seen my endocrinologist in the meantime).

you missed that out of the OP...?

Clearly you know my medical history better than I do!

If I'm snippy it's because the menopause (and related issues) are a touchy subject for me and I've said twice that it couldn't be menopause and then explained why it's not menopause.

Actually I haven't sought medical opinion yet as it's only just occurred to me that it might be a symptom of something.

Anyway, thank you for the magnesium suggestion. I am a very light sleeper so shall try that.

Have you started a low carb diet OP? Peed like a bloody horse I did.

Deathraystare · 04/04/2023 14:58

@AnchorWHAT ·

I had regular tests 'to humour me' when I asked about diabetes (regularl thrush, incredible thirst, tiredness etc). Eventually told a friend who had a diabetic dog. I tested a pee strip and it was off the chart! The doctor asked how I know and laughed when I told that story.....

Well I did say it couldn't be menopause...! I didn't really want to go in to that, but I guess I shouldn't have expected people to just take my word for it.

No worries. As I said, it's a bit of a touchy subject. (Not your fault, of course.)

Nope. Love bread, pasta, etc.

If you come here often you should know that every symptom experienced by women between 30 & 55 is due to “peri” or “meno”. 🙄

I’m 9 1/2 stone and have type 2 diabetes- I’m up a few times a night peeing too. You don’t have to be overweight or have a rubbish diet, some of us are just unlucky

FadedRed · 04/04/2023 15:08

Any other, even vague, symptoms Op? Aches and pains, a bit depressed? I have hyperparathyroidism, due to an adenoma on one of the parathyroid glands and am on waiting list for surgery (not holding my breath there Grin), and frequent peeing in the night is one of the many vague symptoms. Untreated it can lead to osteoporosis and its evils and cardiac arrhythmias, so needs checking out. Suggest some blood tests, including calcium and PTH levels.

purplecorkheart · 04/04/2023 15:15

I have this and to be honest a lot seems to depend on what I am drinking. Tea or coffee or a soft drink seems to affect me more than water. Also I tend to dream a lot and if I dream about anything remotely related to the loo I wake up thinking I need to go.

Age.
bladder walls weaken with age - regardless of hormones/ menopause etc

Ha! Thing is I don't have any of those other symptoms.

Great username, btw.

Interesting. I think the recent bloods would have covered that, but worth considering.

But not just at night, surely?

Yes just at night could just be age.
But I would really check diabetes.

For both the main symptom could be simply increased urination at night….

Megamopyeah · 04/04/2023 15:27

Are you drinking enough water? If find the LESS water I drink, the more I’m up to pee. Although it’s more like a few drops as opposed to a full pee. When I drink more water even in the evening, I’m up less.

Possibly not drinking enough. Although when I get up I'm peeing a lot, not just a few drops.

Apparently if you drink more earlier in the day and less as the day goes on it can help.

Can be a symptom of Parkinson's Disease OP. Worth looking at other PD symptoms as many of them are creeping/gradual)subtle.

NewYearNewUsername23 · 04/04/2023 16:00

My only type two symptom was peeing a lot at night (which is also a symptom of another condition I have so I missed). It was only when my sugar went down and the peeing improved I realised it was due to the diabetes
