I have literally never heard this.

Is it true? I think not...

I'm bisexual and I've never hear that one before. Am I supposed to have 2 piercings in my nose? I think, in the west at least, it might demonstrate that someone is a little more avant-garde, so it possible they may have given their sexuality more thought than others.

Interestingly, throughout modern history, many things that were adopted by the gay community (as mentioned up thread, white socks for men, one different coloured ring finger nail for women)have been adopted by the straight community anyway.

All lesbian and bisexual women I know (and I know a lot!) have their noses pierced, but not everyone I know with their nose pierced is a lesbian/bisexual... so I guess maybe I might associate it more with queerness, but not exclusively?

VeronicaTimeTurner · 03/04/2023 13:09

I was just going to say my DD has both sides pierced - must mean she's bi-sexual (she's not).
Who cares anyway?

MrsMiddleMother · 03/04/2023 13:12

My dsd said last night according to tiktok you're Bi if you are always hungry...
Apparently we're all Bisexual in this house 😂 it's ridiculous the things they come out with, the only way to know someone's sexuality is to ask them

Wasn't it the other way round?

My (hetero) DB had his left ear pierced. As do a few other, older, male relatives
My (gay) DS has his right one done.

I probably should tell my mum she's a lesbian on account of her nose piercing. Grin

Please do @MillicentTrilbyHiggins and update us on what her response was. You might learn something new….

Well you're not yourself when you're hungry. Have a kit kat, it should straighten you back up. 🤣

Both you and your friend are bonkers, I mean do you really need to ask if it's true?

Have neither of you ever met Asian women with nose piercings and if you have, do you both assume they're all gay? Hmm

All these secret signals and signs so much a secret even the people using them dont have a bloody clue

Ladamesansmerci · 01/03/2025 17:26

I'm a millennial lesbian. There are some jokey stereotypes in the queer community about nose rings and the bisexual bob 😁

In my youth it meant you were Indian or a punk.

I remember the ear piercing one for men, also for men hanging a handkerchief out of your jeans pocket indicated what position you preferred.

When Bruce Springsteen brought out the album with his bum and a handkerchief hanging out there was a lot of speculation.

Decades ago people might have though that - like in the 80s?!

Very few people had nose piercings in the 80s.

They were the days of left is right and right is wrong.

South Indian culture especially Tamil/Kannada region, it is common for women to pierce their noses on the right side, especially around puberty, as it is believed to have connections with Ayurveda and traditional practices that promote health and well-being. The right nostril piercing is often associated with specific medicinal and cultural significances, such as balancing the body's doshas and enhancing reproductive health, reflecting the deep-rooted cultural and Ayurvedic beliefs that influence personal adornment choices.
