I bought a pair of £1 knitted gloves on the market. Keep them in the car and put them on every morning to drive with in the eintet ( cold steering wheel makes my hands hurt).

They have lasted 4 winters so far. Just washed them and put them away for next winter.

My grandmothers mixer, given to her for her wedding in 1938. Unfortunately nan died last year age 102, but the machine is going strong and still makes lovely cakes and meringues!

Our hoover washing machine. We bought it when the previous one broke down and we had virtually no money, it was the cheapest one available and is now in its 12th year!

I was just coming to post the same! The Hoover washing machine was one of the cheapest in the shop and it still works perfectly after 19 years. Grin

Two pans I bought from Ikea in 1995 for a couple of quid each, still look like new and used every day.

Back when we were saving up for our first house, I had to sell my beloved (newish) car and buy an old banger. I was so upset about it at the time I couldn’t even go to the garage to pick it up! It was a Mercedes A class and cost £1200. Anyway, once we’d got the mortgage over the line DH said we should keep it until it ceased to become reliable. The bloody thing was bullet proof!! It just lasted and lasted and never went wrong. Bloody German engineering. Eventually (several years later!) I told DH it needed 4 new tyres and the cost of the new tyres would probably exceed the value of the car… so he agreed to a new car.

Prestige serrated bread knife with a wooden handle. Best one we've ever had. I've no idea how old it is, but we bought it from a charity shop in the early 1970s. Oh the joys of furnishing our new flat!

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 21/06/2023 18:02

Ikea strainers for veg/pasta £1.50 each when we first got married, still going.

Ikea Antelope High Chair, as hand down from DBs 4 DC, the eldest is 14 and my DS is using it now

ArcticBells · 21/06/2023 18:08

Still using a clock radio bought 35 years ago.

Roselilly36 · 21/06/2023 18:24

Stainless steel colander must be 25 years old, it was so cheap, still as perfect as they day I bought it.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 21/06/2023 18:35

I got a microwave for £20 in the Rumbelows closing down sale just before I went to university. That was over a quarter of a century ago and, despite regular use, it has only just packed up within the last month 😁

Johnnyfartpants · 21/06/2023 18:39

Until this January (sob) a towelling dressing gown with a hood bought by my mum for me when I went to university in 1999 from Debenhams. I think nearly 24 years for something that cost, I think, about £25 is pretty good. I miss it, it was so soft by the end!

Mummaluma · 21/06/2023 18:39

Ikea wok I got for £3 in 2001. Still going and perfect.

A potato peeler that was bought at a jumble sale ( with now vintage Pyrex and other bits) by an aunt for my husband who had just moved into his first flat .
This was mid 80s.

It remains the most important tool in our kitchen.

Apparently Pyrex is going out of business.... cos it's too good, doesn't break. 😕

magnolia1997 · 21/06/2023 20:19

Got an ikea chest of drawers bought 31 years ago.

Can well believe it.

As a single woman I bought a large square deep Pyrex dish with a lid.

A monster.

Loved it. Really loved it. Used it so much.

Fabulous for pasta, lasagne.

Even a couple of incredible potato gratins that I was famous for!

Had it years, loved it.

Husband dropped it a few years ago.FFS.

We have NEVER actually discussed it......such is my annoyance.🤐

I just said "fine, fine accidents happen"😡🤬..and removed myself from the kitchen.

In long marriages this is sometimes wise.

Loved that dish....

@MissDollyMix ...reminds me of my late Mum's old Mercedes 190E, it was 16 years old when she passed away, we sold it to a couple my sister knew well, they were struggling financially and their car was beyond repair. It was still going strong 5 years later, they loved it.

ExtremelyDetermined · 21/06/2023 20:58

Yes some of our pyrex goes back decades, most of our Ikea stuff is 30 or so years old too.

ChickenMacaroni · 21/06/2023 21:02

My mum handed down to me some black peep-toe party shoes from New Look (£12.99, she bought them for a wedding and didn't need them again) when I was 16. Still wear them now!

Shittingpigeon · 22/06/2023 00:15

A BHS beach towel bought for my first girls holiday in Tenerife, back in 1994. Still in perfect condition - no signs of going crispy or the colour fading.

DrGoogleMD · 22/06/2023 00:24

When I first left home I bought the cheapest hand mixer that argos had for baking, 20 years later it's still going strong. I have a fancy stand mixer now but I still like to whip out the hand mixer on occasion, I have so many fond memories of using it baking with my now teens when they small.

Wellgoodforyou · 22/06/2023 00:25

White night tumble drier in the mid 90s ..have just emptied pants and socks! Used every day for almost 30years !!

Wednesdaysotherchild · 22/06/2023 00:33

Primark socks - bought for cheap in 2004 and still going!

MissTrip82 · 22/06/2023 01:03

I bought the cheapest washing machine available and it lasted 15 years. Only replaced it to ‘upgrade’ to an expensive one - way more issues with it.

GreyCarpet · 22/06/2023 07:48

I got some furniture from IKEA about 20 years ago which is still going strong.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/06/2023 13:42

@Shittingpigeon I've got 3 maxi dresses bought from BHS in 2007- still look great and worn 'a lot' not one was over £25

Gymmum82 · 22/06/2023 13:44

£1 baking tray from Poundland about 20 years ago. Still going strong
