Help me name a horse

Sainsburysbunny · 31/03/2023 22:40

Bought my first horse today. Know its unlucky to change their names but hers is truly awful.

Black mare, she's not spectacular to look at but sweet in character. Which is all I care about.

Can you help me name her please. Nothing too pretentious. Would like something different, short, and cute.

There are lots of suggestions here, so don’t think I can add to them. But I agree that you need to change her name, poor girl!

I saw somewhere that it’s best to stick with two or one syllables for animal names. Something to do with the intonation of how you call them, it just sounds better.

At the end of the day, you know you’ll end up with a few alternative nicknames anyway. Always happens one you get to know personalities!

Oh gosh what a terrible name!

how old is she? Someone once told me that horses / ponies won’t recognise a name change if they are too old (this was in the context of a rescue horse that has simply always been called ‘that horse’ by the previous owner. He did learn his new name!).

I’d go with something in relation to her sweet character, so a sweet name.

several of ours over the years have had name changes, can’t say any were bad luck!

I know a horse called Paul

Aw at first I wondered why you would change her name but I can believe she was named after being ugly!
you say she’s sweet so could her passport name be changed to ‘the sweet one’.
and then give her a sweet name like named after a berry or dessert or treat or cookie.

Tall Paul?
