Help me name a horse

Sainsburysbunny · 31/03/2023 22:40

Bought my first horse today. Know its unlucky to change their names but hers is truly awful.

Black mare, she's not spectacular to look at but sweet in character. Which is all I care about.

Can you help me name her please. Nothing too pretentious. Would like something different, short, and cute.

A little black mare that I have very fond memories of from childhood was called Tulip, so that's my vote. She was a very special horse.

I too really want to know what her terrible current name is. The worst I've come across was a poor little gelding called David Beckham.

@Sainsburysbunny

it would be much easier with a photo (or 6).

what's her current name, maybe we can help by finding a nicer version if that?

lightlypoached · 31/03/2023 23:01

Why can't you change the name?

Sainsburysbunny · 31/03/2023 23:03

For all those telling me I can't change her name...
Her passport name is 'the ugly one'

Her stable name is fugly. She's not keeping it. Sorry.

@lightlypoached it's an old wives tale that it's bad luck.

Pan, short for Pantalaimon. Ok technically male, but still a great name!

OMG the poor horse!
I do think they know their names, I'd try and call her figgy or something that sounds quite like her (dreadful) stable name

Vliss · 31/03/2023 23:06

Definitely Bella then! Poor girl!

BreviloquentBastard · 31/03/2023 23:06

Oh bless her heart, what a mean name! Maybe call her Duckling, as in "the ugly duckling"? Ducky for short? Then you're still associating to her "actual" name! We had a Goose on our yard at one point, I quite like bird names 😂

GoodVibesHere · 31/03/2023 23:07

Aww that really IS a bad name!

I'd call her Lovely.

jjeanii · 31/03/2023 23:07

Gigi or Fifi

Spambod · 31/03/2023 23:08

Beryl
blackberry
berry
sooty

Katypyee · 31/03/2023 23:09

@Sainsburysbunny The poor mare being called that. No wonder you want to change it!

Perhaps a name that sounds similar to her name? Or ends in the same sound? Seems you have lots of suggestions for names.

You will have to come back and let us all know what you named her.

AwkwardPaws27 · 31/03/2023 23:09

Figgy / Fig is a cute alternative!

Exl · 31/03/2023 23:09

Gem.

Oh no!! Change her name to something that means beautiful or pretty then.
Sounds like she needs it!

UrsulaPandress · 31/03/2023 23:13

Wow that’s just rude. Why on earth?

Sainsburysbunny · 31/03/2023 23:14

Oh I like Fig!

ZeroWorshipHere · 31/03/2023 23:16

I’d go with Bess or Nyx if not too pretentious (Greek goddess of the night).

poor little pony

Reinventinganna · 31/03/2023 23:16

Horsey

Poor thing why would someone name their horse fugly!

Delphigirl · 31/03/2023 23:18

Need to find something with the same vowel sounds as fugly so she recognises it.

like Bunny

or Lucky (bit crap as a name though)

what about Lully? I was at school with a girl called Lully who was very cool. Quite sweet for a mare.

Rubyhaunt · 31/03/2023 23:19
