Very rich friend, 45, what do I buy her for £50?

It's my friend's birthday and she's just had a difficult time so I want to buy her a nice present, budget £50. But unlike me she is absolutely minted and has literally everything she wants, from expensive weekly flower deliveries and super expensive candles burning in every room to organic beauty products and £400 cashmere jerseys.

What on earth shall I get her? She likes yoga, eating healthily, riding, and dogs.

Agree with time together.

Ticket to a local theatre production?

That's a really good idea!

For my DH's recent birthday his best friend did something lovely. He chose four books that he thought suited different parts of his temperament/personality/likes/memories they shared and wrote a lovely small paragraph about each and why it connectedness with him. It was such a thoughtful and lovely gift but can't have cost him more than £30.

Fudgewomble · 30/03/2023 21:28

Thinking about what my millionaire friends buy each other…massage or facial vouchers at local places. Yes they can afford to buy these things themselves but so busy with life if you have a voucher it MAKES you book in and do something for yourself.

£50 bottle of vintage champagne (not Prosecco). Or if you know what spirits they like really special bottle for £50 eg Chase Gin is amazing and £50/bottle.

a couple of special new release hardbacks (with gift receipts)

I'd do lunch/ afternoon tea

Or

F & M do some very fancy initial notelets, I've bought them before for people

Go to TK Max they have lovely candles, diffusers, photo frames

A hamper of some sort

Bottle of champagne

Prosecco and chocolates gift (M&S)

A bay tree in a nice tub

Look up Lucy Lord on Facebook or Instagram.
She does online sessions that you can buy tickets for. It's called Bend & Bake & you buy a ticket, you get sent a pack that has a recipe card etc in. You buy the ingredients & you cook along with Lucy & others. She then does a yoga flow session & sometimes an extra thing like a breath work activity or a craft activity. Lucy also has 2 cook books, so you could buy one of those so you have an actual physical present to give too.

I agree with PP - Aesops hand wash or hand cream is lovely

If you have any chichi florists near you I would pop in and see what £50 would buy. Here ir would be maybe a beautiful little log with moss and a few tiny flowers or a nice glass bowl of good smelling blooms. It is really hard to think of something thoughtful when you feel your budget isn’t a lot compared to what they could spend on themselves. I do also agree with thoughtful book choices. Especially if her tough year means she needs some nice positive stories or interesting non fiction to distract her. You sound like a really thoughtful friend.

CharlotteDoyle · 30/03/2023 21:33

Are you sure she's expecting/wanting a present? In my experience that would be quite unusual for friends in that age category to exchange birthday gifts other than for milestone birthdays...

If anything I'd invite her out for a nice lunch on you. Alternatively, a bottle of champagne + birthday card.

Mum5net · 30/03/2023 21:35

Google ‘Drag Queen Bingo’ a super fun night out for both of you

C1N1C · 30/03/2023 21:37

Easy is your friend as it's mostly hand-made, unique stuff you won't find in shops etc

Comii9 · 30/03/2023 21:37

Theatre tickets are so expensive. I paid £160 for 2 of us in December.

A candle OP.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/03/2023 21:38

I was going to suggest tickets to an ice hockey match - massive fun - but the season is nearly finished.

Definitely an experience to share rather than stuff.
Pottery class?
Silversmithing class (although unlikejy
to get 2 people for £50).
Craft class of some sort?
Mixology?

A l' Occitane shower gel and body balm

Savoury · 30/03/2023 21:40

A large fancy glass jar with a huge selection of something she likes (dried fruits, muesli, nuts. seeds, or even biscuits etc.) and a label maker!!

purplerainldn · 30/03/2023 21:41

How about a nice David Austin rose? Such a lovely gift and will last forever x

Schnooze · 30/03/2023 21:51

Any experience that you can do with her. She’ll value your time more than anything. Perhaps an escape room or anything really, even packing a lovely picnic when the weather is better.

Rebel2 · 30/03/2023 21:52

If she likes candles, these are amazing and relatively not well known. Plus they're on offer for £35 and get two free minis which you could give or keep for yourself!

Does she like reading??

FusionChefGeoff · 30/03/2023 22:02

You need to ace the 'thought' angle so really drill down into her daily life and what she would value as being very personal and really thoughtful.

My friend recently bought me some incredibly fancy low sugar / Keto / dark chocolate as she knows I'm trying to follow low carb but ADORE chocolate. That hit the nail on the head for me.

Does she take any supplements? That might fit with the yoga / healthy eating and I've got a beautiful box that I put mine in.

Does she like aromatherapy oils? High quality oils and maybe a beautiful box to keep them in.

I can't help with dogs or riding sorry!

A rose that's linked to her name somehow if she likes gardening?

YoDood · 30/03/2023 22:02

Pottery class

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 30/03/2023 22:02

I would either take her out for tea or bake her a birthday cake 🎂
