How to pronounce this name

I always thought it was pronounced "Zay-vee-ar"

But I've heard people saying "ex-zay-vee-ar"

Which is correct or can you say either?

Zay - vee - er. I worked with a bloke who called his boy this, pronounced it like that ^

There are 3 different pronunciations depending on whether you're French, Spanish or American! British seem to use Zavier which is more French but with terrible pronunciation!

Ds has a friend Xavier and he always calls him Zav-ya

@SwedishEdith really? The pronunciation has changed over time then. I knew several people who attended SFX 20ish years ago and it was pronounced Zay-vyuh (to rhyme with Saviour) when said in full

English = Ex-zay-vee-er

French = Zav-ee-eh

Spanish = Khav-ee-air

That's from my experience anyway!

I have a Jewish friend Xavier and it is Zaviour like Saviour

The only time I've ever heard of it pronounced 'Ex saviour' is in the X-men movies so I presume that it's an American pronunciation.

Er in French is pronounced ay, surely.

I would always say it the French way “Za-vee-ay”. That’s how the Xavier I knew pronounced it.

Or, at a push, Zaviour to rhyme with saviour, but with a bit of a twitch.

Anyone saying Ex-ay-vee-ur can get firmly in the bin.
