Xavier

I always thought it was pronounced "Zay-vee-ar"

But I've heard people saying "ex-zay-vee-ar"

Which is correct or can you say either?

JeannieAlogy · 28/03/2023 18:15

Is pronounce it zav-ee-ay (like zav and then the names of the letters E and A )

Zav-ee-ay.

MissLucyLiu · 28/03/2023 18:18

Za vee ay - French

Spanish say Havee ay but most spanish people spell it as Javier .. Not sure I've seen a Spanish guy's name spelt as Xavier

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 28/03/2023 18:18

Za vee ay. The other pronunciation sounds like Charles Xavier from the X Men.

Clymene · 28/03/2023 18:24

Zay Vee Urh is the English pronunciation

LienD · 28/03/2023 18:27

Ksa-vjay

JamSandle · 28/03/2023 18:28

Pennymixture · 28/03/2023 18:34

Zav - ee - ay

Yes, like this

TwigTheWonderKid · 28/03/2023 18:38

All the Xaviers I know (English, middle class, if that makes a difference) pronounce it like saviour but with a z, so Zaviour.

This is the closest approximation to how I thought it should be pronounced. Seems like it varies.

There's a school in Liverpool called St Francis Xavier. It's usually just called SFX but if said in full, I've heard it called Ex ay vee ur.

Gincan · 28/03/2023 18:57

My first instinct was xay-vier but then i remembered in the X men films it's Professor Ex-zay-vier....if that's relevant 🤓

I think it can be either

vinoandbrie · 28/03/2023 18:58

beetlebrain · 28/03/2023 18:08

Zav - ee - ay

This.

DanglingMod · 28/03/2023 18:59

All.the ones I know pronounce it the French way, so approximately Zav-ee-ay
