...that you'd never do in the office.

My DH was shaving his beard In-between emails this week and it made me chuckle at the thought of him doing this in the office.

What things do you do while you WFH that would be completely inappropriate/slightly hilarious if you did them in the office?

By far the best advantage is no wasted time commuting. I do roughly 50/50 office/home now. I’m hyper focused at home and way more productive, even if I garden at lunchtime, hang out washing, some tidying up etc. we eat earlier in the evening which is way healthier. I see my daughter in the morning, drop off and pick up. I will NEVER return to leaving before she waked and returning when she’s in bed, even on days I go to office. On the other hand in the office is good for collaboration, meeting and mentoring new colleagues and walks out for lunch etc. Our office is sad now and it’s hardly worth keeping the space. I think office generally is better for mental health but it must fit health and family requirements. It’s entirely possible. We are in a period of change. Travel options, everything. Nobody bats an eyelid when I take practically a day out for a train to eg Berlin or Barcelona (I am based in Belgium). I was recently at a mtg that went off at a tangent about mental health of tourist employees and changes in employment. Rules, shifts, work changes, coupled with climate change adjustments means that holiday travel and duration will change. Managers who mentally think ‘off’ when a colleague wfh need to retrain.

Sounds bliss! So.looking for a wfh job, having worked in an environment of standing on feet all day, little time to go tobthe loo or a proper break then coming home, often late, to then start on house stuff and DC. Do you find you concentrate as much and are as efficient? I can imagine more so without the interruptions and distractions. When I was younger I would have missed interactions and being able to pick brains but now I would be quite happy not to talk anyone all day and certainly wouldn't miss the traffic and daily rushing about.

Oh and to add I would have my little dog on my lap, be in pjs and slippers and possibly a friday aft glass of vino reward lol. X

Work in PJs

Nip off to put a wash on or clean the bathrooms between jobs

Do desk yoga

I love WFH.

Sit with my budgie on my head during calls.

😂😂

For me it's comfort - pj bottoms, cosy socks and a smart top, cosy room rather than chilly aircon. Camera is low definition so I don't need to pluck my chin hairs!

@ExpatAl easily the most balanced & forward looking post about wfh on here
Bravo !

If it’s a meeting I don’t have to have the camera on, then I do all the boring stuff. Epilate my legs, do a footner, paint my nails, make a lasagne. Once even sat on the loo whilst having a IBD flare up!

Meetings with the camera, I set the robovac to vacuum the house!

I'm with you there! WFH great for IBD flare toilet visits mid meeting 😅

Leftbutcameback · 14/04/2023 21:32

I have very mild IBS but when I have a flare up I can’t bear anything around my waist, so working in dungarees at home is perfect for me. Or even a dressing gown if necessary. I guess I could wear the dungarees to the office but I’d be asked why a lot. Although they might work it out after my 20th trip to the loo.
