If you could go back to your childhood, what's one thing that you would bring back today?

For me, it would be the TV show 'The Crystal Maze'. I was obsessed with the show. I know they tried to bring it back a few years ago but it wasn't the same. I adored Richard O'Brien and the whole set up of them going from zone to zone trying to win a crystal. They'll never be another game show like it.

Not really one thing, but I'd love to return to that feeling of being surrounded by people who know and love you - grandparents, youthful parents, extended family, friends of parents who you called Auntie and Uncle.

I feel sad my kids will never know this feeling. My parents aren't that interested in spending any time with my kids and my DP's mum has zero interest. We have very little family and everyone is so busy we never see anyone. I had very little family when I was growing up but we made time to see people and spend quality time with them.

People having the ability to just get on with things without the mentality the world owes them something or that they are special in some way.

There was a kid's programme in the 80s called Knightmare, it was amazing, but no one apart from me seems to remember it.

Also lolo balls - which were like footballs with a disc for your feet so you could jump up and down

Toys in cereal

Non-sexualised My Little Ponies

I felt the same for just saying my parents, when I also miss my Grandparents. But I was thinking of my parents pottering about around me, while I lounged on the sofa. I really miss those days.

Callard and Bowser replica nougat has been ordered and I will report back. Do you remember the butterscotch too ? I loved the boxes with their drawer, and the wrapped sticks of nougat or butterscotch. Packaging has really gone downhill in the last decade or two. Bendicks Bittermints used to have those sturdy and elegant white and green boxes, now black and green and horrible.

@SirVixofVixHall oh well, we can feel guilty together xx

Yes, I definitely remember the butterscotch in the sliding out drawer! One of my favourites!!

packaging if everything like that has declined!!

looking forward to your nougat review!!!

Flambards on Sunday afternoon. The theme tune can nearly take me back.

My brother, who died three weeks ago.

@ClaraBourne I'm very sorry to hear about your brother 🌷

Going back to a thread from the other day about shopping in days past….
Hands down, I’d bring back Woolworths pick n mix 🙌🏻
No other pick n mix will ever compare. I remember being around 4 years old, being stood in front of the enormous stands, and feeling like I’d walked into Willy Wonkas chocolate factory 😍

Shops closed on Sundays. Made the day feel very different.

TabbyM · 28/03/2023 12:32

My Mum and my Aunt - I miss her lovely house and access to the woods and fields.

On a less tearful note yes to the pp with cremola foam, proper Boosts, mint Wispas and the general belief that doing well in exams etc would be useful for later life.

aftersunandlays · 28/03/2023 14:00

Jolly Rancher sweets in the electric blue packet. The vile American ones are still available in some shops, but the ones they did here were amazing. Proper tangy square sweets in cherry, watermelon, apple and orange flavour. They came out when I was about 10 but seemed to disappear not long after and I've craved them ever since, especially the dark red cherry one.

barbrahunter · 28/03/2023 14:12

That feeling of waking up on the first day of the school summer holidays, and knowing that 6 weeks of happiness lie ahead. Those long summer days spent roaming around the park with friends, collecting discarded empty pop bottles for the money you got back on them, and spending that money on more pop and penny chews.

DahliaMacNamara · 28/03/2023 14:19

Oh, I'm confused about the Jolly Rancher sweets now. That's one thing that tastes the same to me. I haven't tried any weird varieties, but I know they must be American because the purple ones are grape flavour. And the cherry flavour is outstanding. Properly tangy, without that slight almondy taste you often get in cherry sweets.
The ones I've had are loose from a jar. I've seen the little blue packets, but they're usually too expensive. Are they different from the ones sold by weight?

SirVixofVixHall · 03/04/2023 16:25

Update on the nougat. It has arrived and is delicious. I have eaten almost an entire box !!

The absolute and joy and innocence of childhood. Not worrying about money, bills, climate change, if I’m a good enough parent. Just always excited for the next thing and happy.

All of this and the simpler life we seemed to have in the 70s
