I can't be the only person who hates 'the claw'?

Am l?

I love looking at beauty threads/forums etc, no idea why as I'm pretty basic but I like looking at pretty things I suppose. But lordy I hate that claw thing that some people do to show their nails off, particularly when it's accompanied by a carefully pulled down jumper sleeve for that oh so cosy charm.

Also hate the term 'the ick', so ridiculous to hear adults talk like that.

Fucking hate celery too.

Yes this is light-hearted, no it doesn't matter and no it doesn't really affect me. Just some weekend nonsense.

Can you include a picture? I’m not quite sure what you mean.

I have an aversion to long (real or false) painted nails. They just scream 'dirty' to me - whether they are or not..

Hate the claw but the ick is real. Can see how it might grate if you haven't experienced it but when you know you know and it does sum it up perfectly 😅😆

Oh I have, too many times than I care to think about but back in the day it was just 'I just went off him/her'. 🤣

“The ick” is symptomatic of everything having to have a special name or title to make it clear that it’s most definitely “A thing” and not just something they’ve made up. (I hate “A thing” for the same reason. Literally everything is a thing - hence the word “every-thing”!)

I feel similarly about people on Mumsnet “going NC”. You’re just no longer talking to someone! Why does it need to be an event in its own right? It sounds like it should be one of those Notice of Closure messages you get when a company is withdrawing a service - “I regret to announce that, as of 00:00 AM on Monday 21 August, I will be withdrawing communication with Aunty Pam and Going NC. Please refer all enquiries to my nan after this point.”

Am I the only one getting a Stranger Things vibe from those talons?

This!

That is an especially horrible example! Yes I hate the claw too.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 25/03/2023 09:32

That claw looks like a dead spider I once found in some celery was actually in a lettuce I can take or leave celery now but when I was a kid l loved it. I don't like it cooked though - all floppy and slimy? No thanks.
As for the ick - are we all four? Repulses me. There you go.

SinnerBoy · 25/03/2023 09:34

Anyway, I thought that The Claw was going to be one of those 1001 new superheroes, which seem to have sprouted like toadstools, after autumn rain.

Please don't hold it against me, but I like raw celery in a mixed salad...

I prefer it best in soup, or with carrots, in a cheese sauce. Don't forget a bit of garlic and coriander.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/03/2023 09:36

I thought you were referring to that crane thing you see in amusement arcades where you try and 'grab' a toy or iPhone, and then the claw always let's go before you want it to.

I like celery, lovely with lots of salt and some mayo, but I don't like prawns (they're look like big, pink maggots to me.)

Bbq1 · 25/03/2023 09:42

Totally agree, Op about the ick. It's something that I think was made popular by love island so there's your clue about why it's such an immature term to use... Children say things are icky so why would an an adult use that in relation to another adult? I an not old but in my day, we would just say "Oh I've gone off them because of xyz". Mind you we weren't posting that all over sm. Saying it to a couple of people maybe.

In fairness, I thought that too. The little alien toys in Toy Story called it ‘The Claaaaw!’ in awestruck tones and longed to be plucked by it into a Higher Realm.

liveforsummer · 25/03/2023 09:52

Ah but that's not the same thing at all.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 25/03/2023 09:58

Yes i hate ' the ick' too
Really annoying

I dislike all the attention people pay to eyebrows these days. I just don't get it. It seldom looks better than normal eyebrows.

HRTeatime · 25/03/2023 10:01

I was totally on the wrong path with “the claw”. I was expecting this to be about Jim Carrey and Cary elwes 🤷‍♀️

I often wonder if some of the people on the stately homes thread are just being dramatic, and the rest of the family are actually very relieved they've gone 'NC'

HoneyBeen · 25/03/2023 10:02

I think I'm the only woman in the world who hates false nails of any description.
They can get in the bin with the celery.

I clicked on this thread, not realising it was in S&B, thinking the same thing!

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 25/03/2023 10:03

Agree on the celery, unless cooked.
And yes it would do all sorts of unmentionable things if it could. Those vegetable ads that are running at the moment are not a complete lie....

The Ick.... I don't like the sound of it either but what other word would be a good substitute?

Oh that claw thing looks horrible. I hadn't particularly noticed it, bit I bet I will see it everywhere now - and that's all your fault, OP
😁

naemates · 25/03/2023 10:06

I once read a comment on an insta reel that just said:

'The nails, the rings and the sleeve'

And it's basically ruined Instagram for me, it cannot be unseen

crochetmonkey74 · 25/03/2023 10:09

I love celery with primula squeeze cheese then raisins put on top. Am I banished from this thread 😀

I thought you were referring to the machine that fails to grab toys in an amusement place: 'The Claw' as it is referred to in Toy Story by the alien toys.

I read the thread title in that Alien voice, I'm so glad it isn't just me who went there first 😂

TrackerBar · 25/03/2023 10:23

Dislike the ick

Dislike the claw

LOVE celery with salt on and I have a special technique to avoid the strings.....

Is this thread a free for all to say what we all hate? Can I go rogue?

I'm doing it anyway!!!! Really annoying when adults post 'Thank you for all my birthday wishes, I have been thoroughly spoilt' on facebook

GYAHHHH!!! Like they're 5!

Ok, am donning my hard hat in case I get flayed............
