Would you want to know if one of these people lived on your street *content warning - SO*

Was careful with the title so as not to cause any unwanted distress.

I watched Stacey Dooley’s documentary where she went to Florida and they literally signpost “The occupant of (address) is a convicted sex offender” at the edge of the neighbourhood. They also have an online database where you can put someone’s name in and see if they have convictions of that nature. It’ll tell you what they’ve done and when.

I know there are a few illegal websites in the UK which do the same, but nothing published by the police or government, as in the US.

Would you like to see something like this available?

Would you want to know if a convicted sex offender or paedophile lived on your street?

Ignorance is bliss. I think most people vastly underestimate the number of sex offenders out there as well as abusers, killers, violent criminals, etc. While I suppose I would want to know in theory so I could keep my children safe, in reality the scale of it would probably terrify me into never leaving my house.

Why are there so many fucked up men!

usernamechanged1 · 25/03/2023 10:40

QueefQueen80s · 25/03/2023 10:33

You sound so accepting of it. They should be driven out and left to live on the streets. Real consequences

I live in an area where, if someone ever was discovered to be one, they wouldn’t last the day.

Every man (and probably every woman) in the neighbourhood would be at the door advising them to pack their bags and take off.

It wouldn’t be a request; if they refused, they’d be ”helped” to go.

I know many, many people disagree with that. Perhaps it’s a big part of the reason we don’t have a given right to know where these individuals are.

If everybody knows where to find sex offenders, does that not also include other sex offenders? Surely making it easier for them to find one another is also incredibly risky.

QueefQueen80s · 25/03/2023 10:51

@usernamechanged1 Same, and it does happen here to the known ones. Paedos, rapists.. The ones convicted and named in the newspapers. It's a small village full of families and when one moves in, they get their home wrecked and they move on. One had the balls to stand at his gate every day watching the children walk past on the school run.
They need putting in a meat grinder.

And how exactly does that help the professionals involved to risk manage them? This sort of behaviour exacerbates the problem.

@Greenshake I honestly couldn't give a damn, why should people put up with them living nearby? They are disgusting and I'm sick of reading apologists on here.

I couldn't agree more.

Their disgusting actions should have consequences that actually matter to them.

I wish known SOs were housed alongside people who said things like 'I'm not bothered by them' or 'paedophiles deserve a second chance'. It would be interesting to see how having such a neighbour impacted on their lives.

How do you know you don't live near a Rapist or a paedophile?
a rapist/ Paedophile who.has never been caught or convicted,is still.a Rapist/ Paedophile.

Nobody is apologising for them but where do you suggest they live? as the law stands most won't be incarcerated forever if at all.and unfortunately they do have to live somewhere .

You can’t avoid sex offenders. It’s not possible.

You will never know who they are and 99.9% of their interactions with people will be entirely normal and even beneficial/positive.

I live on a street with over 100 houses. Let’s say an average of 3 people per house. Statistically there will be sex offenders among them, caught and uncaught, as well as future offenders.

There will be sex offenders on most streets. And in most families.

I don’t find this a bizarre post at all. I’ve had the misfortune to distantly cross paths with two now convicted sex offenders. One worked for the police (not an officer) and the other was a landowner who was regarded as the life and soul of village life. They’re not all grubby old men in dirty coats. They blend in and some do jobs we would consider valuable, so in that respect they can offer something ‘beneficial’, even though in every other respect they are repellent. It’s more common than we’d like to think.

Its all very well saying "They have to live somewhere". However ill assume by your username that you have 2 sons. Would you want them living next door over the road or even a few streets away from you.

It’s not even remotely apologist to highlight the FACT that people have to live somewhere.

QueefQueen80s · 25/03/2023 11:41

@Ichosetheredpill So because Jimmy Saville did all his charity work, we should have allowed him to live a peaceful life nearby despite his abhorrent behaviour?
Yes we know they're not all weirdos hiding in dark corners, we know they are living among us with families and doing worthy jobs, so fucking WHAT. We don't want them nearby and would rather not have their contribution to society positive or negative, if they have families or not.. I would rather have no dad than a sex offender dad present in my life.

Wtf is with all the apologists on here.. I'm usually all about the peace and love for people but not for inhuman scum.

Obviously not but how would I know if they had not been convicted?
You might have one living next door or near to you and you would have no.idea .

@QueefQueen80s Don’t ever call me an apologist. I take serious offence at that. You have completely misread my post. What I’m saying, which is why ‘beneficial’ is in quotes, is that if a sex offender was a doctor they would be considered to be beneficial in that aspect of their lives. The point of my post is that these people hide in plain sight by being ‘normal’ and sometimes that means contributing to society in some way. That is why vigilance is essential. Of course it doesn’t offset any of their evil. Please don’t misquote me again.

What baffles me about Sarah is the fact that a few months ago she was going round to anyone that would listen and anyone that wasn't listening to be fair going on about her and Adams energetic sex filled nights because they were trying for a baby. Now a few months later she doesn't want to get pregnant. You don't change your mind about something like that over a few months. You either want a baby or you dont. I understand she had psychosis after having Harry but she already knew that before she started trying for another baby.

MintJulia · 25/03/2023 11:59

No. it creates a false sense of security.

It doesn't matter where you are, paedophiles have transport and are opportunist. When my ds was at primary school, there was a scare locally when a man tried to drag a boy into a car. A quick thinking mum fought back, dragged the boy out, and the man drove off, but his reg plate was caught on a dash cam.

He was arrested, and found to have travelled from a city 60 miles away to sit outside a primary school at 8.30am. He had multiple convictions, was out on licence, and went back to prison.

Keeping a close eye on your dcs will always be the best option.

The irony, was that Jimmy Saville,WAS allowed to live a peaceful life inspite of his abhorrent behaviour because he had never been convicted of anything , there will be many people like him and maybe just as prolific as him .

Northernsouloldies · 25/03/2023 12:04

And what if information on a person/address wasn't updated, people do move house. So high probability of people /property being targeted by numbskulls.

LonelyInTheOcean · 25/03/2023 12:05

I would like to know. Sex offenders choose to commit their crimes, people should be able to know who are where they are.

And what would you do with that information also what if you were looking at old information and it went round a neighbourhood that the the guy at no. 99 is a paedophile. When in fact the guy at no. 99 has just moved in and is just an ordinary neighbour with no criminal records. How would you put that right?.
