My husband hasn't changed his socks for at least 2 weeks

I know this because I do the laundry and he's been putting his other clothes in the basket, but a couple of weeks ago I realised I hadn't washed any of his socks for a while. Out of curiosity I made a little mark on the calendar and that was 2 weeks ago. Today I had a look in his bedroom in case there was a pile of them gently humming somewhere, but no, he must've been wearing the same ones all this time. I'm not going to say anything, I'm not his Mum and if he wants to wear socks that would be quite capable of walking around by themselves that's his business. Be interesting to see how long it takes him to realise.

Wearing the same socks for two days is pretty grim, but 2 weeks! 🤮

Hoping he's not the same with underwear!

MeinKraft · 22/03/2023 19:48

Surely you could smell a mile off if he'd had the same socks on for two weeks?

Justmeandthedog1 · 22/03/2023 19:48

Is he depressed? Lack of self care is a sign.
Or he could just be minging.

Eh wtf?
you already don’t share a bedroom if you’re referring to his bedroom?😵‍💫

UhhhhhhhOK · 22/03/2023 19:48

Yuck. We had a school friend who always smelled a bit like she stepped in dog poo. She admitted not changing socks for weeks

Unhappyleprechaun · 22/03/2023 19:50

Is he showering and then putting the same socks back on?

He seems quite chipper. He does have form for being a bit lax.

Is he depressed or just gross, I'd be worried he has other disgusting habits you haven't uncovered yet.

We've had separate rooms for some while because we keep each other awake. He snores, I get sweaty and restless.

Is he a teenage boy? If so they'll be down the back of the bed, covered in dodgy "stains". Or at least that's what's going on when I realise I haven't seen any of DS1's socks for a while. I send him to get them himself, I'm not rooting around for them

macncheeeesey · 22/03/2023 19:56

Ugh this is gross. What's the rest of his hygiene like? I had an ex who didn't clean out his ears so they always looked minging, and he wouldn't cut his nails done for ages so they'd look discoloured and disgusting and he would keep his thumb nails long.
I had to end it in the end. I already have a son I have to nag and mother - I'm not trying to do that with a partner!

Does he not smell? Surely you'd smell it.

I'd ask him.....'DP, where have all your used sons gone?! I've done the washing for two weeks and not cleaned any - or are you wearing the same pair?

I think they need to feel ashamed. They are grown men and should have better hygiene habits if they are cohabiting and have a partner. If he was alone he could do what he wants but it's disrespectful otherwise. and off putting! Ugh!

MuddyFeet01 · 22/03/2023 19:57

Does he change his pants every day?

BiffChipsandKippers · 22/03/2023 19:59

Divorce.

As far as I can tell, yes.

Is he working from home and perhaps not wearing socks every day?

Laurdo · 22/03/2023 20:02

I had a friend stay with me for a week. He was moving from London to Scotland and viewing houses where I lived. Every morning before work I'd leave a clean towel outside his door. I told him to make himself at home, use the kitchen and utility room etc. He wore the same pair of socks the entire week. They were very distinctive socks. I just didn't understand why.

seashaken · 22/03/2023 20:02

I haven't noticed a pong but I don't get all that close to his feet.

Has he been chucking them out, ready to buy new ones?

That's a possibility I suppose but I haven't seen any in the bin.

He's going to get a stonking fungal infection. Yuck.

Hedjwitch · 22/03/2023 20:13

DH wears long socks at night because he has diabetes and they help, apparently. I cant remember the last time I ever saw any in the wash. God knows how long he has had this particular pair on. Its disgusting.
But Im not his mother and Im not a house elf. His feet. His problem.

Fromwetome · 22/03/2023 20:16

@iaapap many couples have seperate rooms, what does that have to do with his socks?? Other than shaming people?? Spoken as someone who happily sleeps in a separate room to my spouse.

scoobydoo1971 · 22/03/2023 20:18

On the plus side, if you ever lose him, you can track him down by smelly socks wafting...joking aside, perhaps remind him of potential toe and feet diseases that start with sweaty socks...they must be stiff by now!!
