Do you ever go to the same place in your dreams (but it's a dream place only? Not real)

Not like you often go back to your childhood home or somewhere that originated in the real world but you dream of it alot.

But somewhere that's only in your dreams, but recurrently.

I was dreaming last night of a rollercoaster, I was looking up at it and thought 'Nope, not getting on this. I don' t like this one' and then I vividly remember 'remembering other dreams in my dream of when I've been on this rollercoaster and the feeling it gives me as I go down the big drop'

I wasn't aware I was dreaming but I remembered the roller coaster in my other dreams.

I just thought it was weird as I've never remembered something from a dream whilst in one before.

One of my most common dreams is that we discover secret rooms leading off one another in our house - apparently this is a very common dream and means you have untapped potential or feel you haven't fulfilled your dreams in life - or something!

I have that one too - when I was with my ex there was always something bad in the attic, found out he was cheating & never had that dream since we split up!

Your brain doesn’t have the capacity to make up images.

it will be somewhere your brain has registered, even subconsciously.

the same with dreaming about ‘random’ people, they’re people you will have walked past on the street, seen in a passing car, in a shop ect. You don’t give it a second thought, but the people you see in your dreams are people you’ve seen in real life.

Can you provide any proof for this rather large claim? What size of study was conducted? Who were the researchers and what methods did they use?

Sharkbite79 · 20/03/2023 21:56

Exactly this! Your reply brought back some parts of the dream I had actually forgotten about!

Veryverycalmnow · 20/03/2023 21:58

Yes! I always go to this big house and find loads of rooms filled with interesting treasures. It's so real and I have been to it in several dreams and each time it feels like a place o know really well but I discover something new like a new room.
I love dreams when they're like this!

I think our subconscious definitely tries to tell us things - possibly things we don't want to face up to in real life.

Poppins2016 · 20/03/2023 21:59

Frequently. I also experience recurring dreams - some of them are decades old and the content hasn't changed much at all.

Absolutely!

When my kids were babies I used to have dreams about keeping hamsters alive, the worry was there even when I was asleep but in a more palatable way!

cakewitch · 20/03/2023 22:06

Ohhh... lots of common themes here. I often also dream of hotels. They are almost always not very clean. And I'm always late for something. Or I've lost something.

Phonemonkey2023 · 20/03/2023 22:08

The late homework/late to class dreams when I left school in 1999! 😂

Wackymama1 · 20/03/2023 22:17

I've got a whole other life in my dreams!! It usually involves an element of real life, someone or somewhere I know but in a completely different concept, I do remember many years ago a day trip on family holiday I knew I'd been to but my family said we'd never been there - I dreamt a park and river I even knew there was a path and it was exactly like where we were. Mum put it down to I must of seen it in a book. I think dreams are fascinating.

Same!!! I have either bought a house Ruth extra rooms - like a whole extra kitchen. Or another wing. Or go to a friend's house with 3 spare rooms. I remember the decor of each.
Then a block of flats which exists but it's not the same layout IRL. bonkers

PatterdalePatty · 20/03/2023 22:33

And the toilets. No doors or dirty
Or bizarrely having a shower that's in a bedroom - so no tray but shower goes onto the carpet. Weird

Hawkins003 · 20/03/2023 22:34

Usually I rarely dream but as far as I can remember I don't usually have the same or similar dream repeatedly, not as far as I'm aware for a while at least

Findyourneutralspace · 20/03/2023 22:39

Theres a really cool bar I go to in dreamland. It’s a log cabin, high up in the trees and you have to climb a really long ladder to get there. Inside, it’s super cosy and they serve spectacular cocktails. I so wish it existed IRL.

Aside from that, I always go to my gran’s house, which I last visited in 1996, or my old sixty form college. I’ll be getting ready for A Level English and worry I haven’t read any of the texts, done the revision, or been to any classes. Then just as I wake up, I think ‘why am I even bothered? I’ve already got a degree in this’
That’s a really common one I think.

Findyourneutralspace · 20/03/2023 22:40

I can fly in my dreams too. That’s pretty cool when I’m being chased. Happens about once a week.

echt · 20/03/2023 22:42

I often return to dream places, usually houses or buildings that are invariably threatening/inimical in some way. I recognise them in the dream.

FiftyNotNifty · 20/03/2023 22:42

@AmyDudley i googled these packing up dreams a while ago, as i started having them constantly!
It apparently means that your life is overwhelming/chaotic etc and your brain is trying to tidy it all up and prepare you for change, or moving onto another stage.
I was constantly packing up the same place, which was a dream place I'd never been to in real life!

Phonemonkey2023 · 20/03/2023 21:37

@GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut the public loos with no doors! I get that one too! 😀

Omg I get this too! Or there are doors but only half doors so everyone can see in. Or they don't lock. I dream about toilets a lot!

SophiaSW1 · 20/03/2023 22:44

Yes lots

thenightsky · 20/03/2023 22:51

A large hotel on the side of the moors. Its always dusk and the hotel lights are on and I'm a good 10 mins drive away up a steep rocky single track road. When I get there, I have a good, happy, safe feeling.

Another one is seeing motorway flyovers that cross over and over and I'm trying to figure out which lane I need to be in to get over them. Lovely, aesthetically pleasing, sweeping bends that are a pleasure to drive on.

Phonemonkey2023 · 20/03/2023 22:52

Hope I get some nice dreams tonight now and no toilet ones! Will report back in the morning!

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 20/03/2023 22:56

Yes I do. Always twilight and near the water.

Wigeon · 20/03/2023 23:01

Ha - just dreamed last night about this huge school that somehow I'm at as a pupil, even though in the dream I'm an adult and the same age as currently (40s). I've dreamed about it a few times now. It's a classic anxiety dream where I know I'm meant to be in a particular class at a particular time but I can't find the classroom, I can't remember where to go or how to get there, and the school site is so huge that it would take ages and ages to walk around. And I'm so ridiculously late that it will be very embarrassing to go into the classroom even if I do find it.

The dream school doesn't look anything like my old schools or my DCs' schools.

AmyDudley · 20/03/2023 23:04

@FiftyNotNifty that's really interesting, and definitely makes sense regarding my life at the moment ! I wish I could stop having the dreams - they aren't frightening in any way but I always wake up feeling stressed and exhausted, and frustrated because I never actually get the packing done Grin

QuimReaper · 20/03/2023 23:05

Yes I do! Often they're based on real places but bear no actual resemblance to them. I've often wondered if others do it too.
