What’s your favourite campus university and why?

Just that really. I’ll start off by saying York - two lovely campuses and very close to the city so not isolated. I am biased though coz DD is there!

Disclaimer: I haven't visited every campus university, but my favourite is Royal Holloway. A friend did a summer school there and I spent a weekend on her floor. Just a stunning place.

Royal Holloway a great shout! DD’s friend reading politics there and says it’s beautiful

Warwick.

The main bit of the campus itself with the buildings has a really nice, village-y feel.

But if you head down to the lakes, its unbelievably beautiful. Bluebell Wood is stunning and stretches really quite far. The path which kind of hugs the back of Jack Martin halls is also stunning, especially in spring when the students have gone home and the baby ducks and geese start appearing.

Nottingham OP. Campus has everything you could possibly need and the tram gets you into the city in a heartbeat

SOWK · 20/03/2023 13:50

Royal Holloway, I loved it there.

Stringbean70 · 18/04/2023 01:03

Exeter is fabulous. Lancaster too.

DC opted for Nottingham in the end @Trulytotallyme - uses tram all the time

Somanycats · 18/04/2023 01:35

Royal Holloway is fabulous and I actually quite like Reading, but would choose Nottingham overall

CuteCillian · 18/04/2023 01:40

University of Kent, beautiful wooded areas, a short distance into Canterbury and a long but pleasant yomp to Whitstable.

Katiestrives · 18/04/2023 02:15

Seconding Kent @CuteCillian. Gorgeous

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/04/2023 02:22

Didn't like Lancaster as too concretey. Loved Keele and Royal Holloway

EyesOnThePies · 18/04/2023 03:15

Nottingham, with the lovely d buildings on the hill, the lake, etc. Lovely campus.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 18/04/2023 03:59

Didn't like York (didn't study there but attended several conferences). The part we went to was exposed, high up and seemed isolated from the city.
Durham has always seemed like a great uni destination.
I loved Goldsmiths when I was there - beautiful compact campus situated in vibrant location close to great public transport.
Loved my time at Sheffield too - modern campus all within easy reach with good mix of the old & the new, fantastic city & close to the peak district. Best SU I've seen. Many colleagues had gone there as undergraduates and never left. Great tram system too - uni has it's own tram stop.

Nottingham - lake, gardens, wildlife. They have a millennium garden, walled garden amongst others, and certainly used to have people to do tours of them.
Summer they have rowing boats, giant chess, art galleries / exhibitions and a huge new sports centre and decent pool

Everyone always forgets Sussex on these threads. The campus is in the middle of Stanmer Park and just nestles into the South Downs which are stunning. The Brutalist architecture isn't for everyone admittedly but I think it's beautiful.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 18/04/2023 05:53

Nottingham campus is beautiful.

Stirling is gorgeous.

Oblomov23 · 18/04/2023 06:48

Ds1 is at Nottingham. I was very taken with it when we visited. I drove past RH the other day. Both are lovely.

ShandaLear · 18/04/2023 06:52

Queen’s University is beautiful.

whatchagonnado · 18/04/2023 06:55

Another vote for Stirling - apparently it's the most scenic in the UK. It's built round a loch. A wonderful place

NowZeusHasLainWithLeda · 18/04/2023 07:04

Bath and Kent.
But then Bath and Canterbury are two of my favourite places in the world and I'm lucky that whilst living in neither, I get to spend time in both. The former as a parent, the latter for work.

Definitely!

PinkPlantCase · 18/04/2023 07:38

Nottingham and Exeter

heyyellowyellow · 18/04/2023 07:43

Another vote for Stirling - it’s absolutely stunning… when you make the first gentle turn around the loch and see the Wallace Monument nestled in the hills above, jaw dropping. And it has its own castle.

I went to Reading for the first time recently as well as visiting most of the other place mentioned here and it is a really lovely campus and location. I dont know why I was surprised but I thouht it was really nice. Reading town centre is also way nicer than it used to be.
