Really looking for a book that is so utterly fantastic that it's stayed with you for a long time and you could re-read it over and over again. Any suggestions are welcome.

The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson. Utterly beautiful. The only book I regularly reread and always gift to others.

The Secret History - Donna Tartt

Perfume - Patrick Suskind (pretty grim, but I often think about it)

The Night Watch - Sarah Waters. Dear, gallant, brave Kay is one of my favourite fictional characters ever. It's also cleverly evocative of a particular time. Even without its fancy structure, it would be a masterpiece. Love it and think of it often.

When I was young and had time on my hands I was blown away by Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. So clever and unlike anything I'd read before.

The world according to Garp. First time I cried at a book. I read if 30 years ago.

Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy. It's heartbreaking.
Losers by David Eddings and Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami
