Late 40s and 'the rage'!

EL2022 · 16/03/2023 20:13

I don't know what's wrong with me lately, I'm 48 and the last few months I find myself feeling so angry and irritated by everyone. I guess it's got to do with approaching menopause age?

Menopause does not in itself give you the rage. Think about what else is happening in your life. I say this kindly.

DragonflyLady · 16/03/2023 20:16

54 here and the rage has been with me for the past couple of years.

Lollypop701 · 16/03/2023 20:23

I’m peri and the rage is caused by no longer having any shits to give… 10 years ago I might if smiled and walked away, and raged quietly… now I give a death stare snd say ‘really’ Sarcastically… generally makes people change their rhetoric… if they don’t then Tbf I don’t care ;feel responsible

You see, I used to be such a people-pleaser, saying yes to things I didn't want to do to keep people happy. I've also become more outspoken and better at saying no... sometimes I feel like I've had a personality transplant!

yup menopause rages for me, they were really quite scary and I was unpleasant with them. HRT made them disappear

megletthesecond · 16/03/2023 20:28

I had this for about 3 years. It was awful.

Good to hear I'm not the only one!

Can someone explain to me what HRT means?

IggysPop · 25/08/2023 20:51

Yes it does. Maybe you haven’t experienced this but perhaps don’t tell other people their lived experience.

tweetsandchirps · 25/08/2023 20:54

Get it the week before period due - total intolerance for the usual faffy incompetence & pathetic excuses I have to deal with. Suspect it is due to the increased changes in hormones during peri\menopause, they just amplify the usual grumpiness.

flowertoday · 25/08/2023 21:04

I feel like this. I am 47. Have always been a people pleaser, first in line to mediate, pacify, compromise.
Now I feel like the veil has been lifted and I just can't be bothered. I still try and be kind, respectful wherever possible, but am less willing to take other people's rubbish or be treated like rubbish. Cue more sarcasm and less giving a f*. It is like a whole new , less nice me.

ChaToilLeam · 25/08/2023 21:06

Perimenopause definitely made me more easily angered and upset. Now I’m on HRT the rage has dissipated and the upset too, but the “no more fucks to give” feeling remains. Some people have had the sharp edge of my tongue lately (and they have deserved it).

Perimenopause has definitely amplified my PMT regardless of what else is going on in my life. HRT has helped a bit but I'm still pretty ragey few days before period, some months worse than others

ChangedName654321 · 25/08/2023 21:24

I am approaching mid 40s. Definitely get the "no more f#cks left to give" feeling. Out of the month I only feel 'normal' for one week. It's either severe anxiety or feeling irritated by lots of people! No HRT yet but am thinking soon will be needed.

Rage inducing

Potatooooooooo · 25/08/2023 21:54

I actually had the opposite reaction and became really calm….

declutteringmymind · 25/08/2023 22:04

It's been a gradual process up until I was 40 I was an overthinking people pleaser which then morphed into laid back, live an let live. I am now going between 'don't give a shit' and 'Just fuck off'

I'm 46 and happy.

fitch568 · 25/08/2023 22:19

48.. rage easily, patience thin but you know what, I find the 'no fucks to give' quite liberating... it's one of the positives tbh

GuardiansPlayList · 25/08/2023 22:19

Menopause definitely causes “the rage”. I think it’s where the whole sexist Karen insult originates.
HRT got rid of the rages for me. I guess they are like bad PMT.

Flockameanie · 25/08/2023 22:22

Perimenopause = massive rage. For me it peaked at my last period. Then it gradually dissipated. Last period aged 46. Once I was officially in menopause my emotions levelled off completely. No HRT.

TheDuchessOfMN · 25/08/2023 22:25

I’m in peri and full blown rage, to the point that I can’t even stand in a queue without becoming enraged at the other people in the queue. I know that I’m being completely unreasonable (and seethe and rage silently) and that it’s peri. It’s still crap though.

People irritate me all the time. I guess it’s something to do with our fertile/nurturing hormones no longer being needed?

Me too. It's awful and I just can't help it and then the week after I feel so guilty like i was a different person

LadyBird1973 · 25/08/2023 22:34

The dip in hormones definitely has an effect on mood. I have found I'm less patient, more easily irritated and mostly just cba with other people and what they want. Im on HRT but I definitely believe my 'caring' hormones aren't what they used to be.
