Just asking for recommendations please.

What are the best ones? Is it worth the extra money for Ewan the Deluxe sheep?
My poor DD has a poor sleeper so I'd like to get her one.

You can get phone apps and plenty of youtube videos for free. I remember dp finding a 13 hour womb sounds with heart beat in desperation when ds was tiny. No idea if any of it made any difference, or if he just grew up. Probably worth her trying that before expensive gadgets.

LapinR0se · 14/03/2023 20:45

There’s a few really good apps. We had an old iPad and I just used that on airplane mode in her bedroom with the white nosie
on constant

We used these for both babies, our first preferred white noise and second prefers the lullabies. Has three volumes and you can set it to go off after 20 mins but switch back on if they make noise which is handy if they just stir and then re-settle.

Ewan did nothing for our babies! After buying to we resorted to a cheap white noise machine from Amazon and it did the trick.

EggyBreads · 14/03/2023 20:53

You can play white noise albums on Spotify. There's loads of them. Just put a speaker in your babies room and bob's your uncle.

Thank you for all this info.

I'll send her the links first before we try a gadget.
Thank you again.

No don't buy a dream sheep. They only play for about 15 minutes and the sound of the harp leg will haunt my dreams forever. Just stick an echo dot in her room, Alexa can play any sound you like (I recommend dishwasher sounds for newborns! Nice and loud)

peanutbaba · 14/03/2023 22:22

If she has an iPhone she can play background sounds. On the pull down menu from top right of the screen, it's an ear symbol, and has different sounds to choose from. I use that a lot with my 6 month old. I have a lumi white noise machine which I bought before learning the iPhone trick, though I still really like using it. It's got lots of lovely and different sounds.

peanutbaba · 14/03/2023 22:24

Agree with the haunting harp @MeinKraft my first born had a Ewan. I found it bulky and drained batteries so quickly.

MsJuniper · 14/03/2023 22:26

I love Ewan. Sometimes I used to switch him on when the baby was already asleep to help me drop off too.

HappyMarriage · 14/03/2023 22:29

I wouldn’t get a Ewan it only plays for a short while and the batteries run out quickly. We have a lumi white noise machine which you can plug in and play all night

Toddlerteaplease · 14/03/2023 22:33

Play some polyphony by Thomas Tallis. Spem In Alium works a treat with babies at work. White noise is a pain on a hospital ward. It's so loud!

MyLovelyLily · 14/03/2023 22:34

I recently bought the Renpho sound machine (29 sounds) for my 6 month old. I'd been putting it off and using my phone here and there (which I don't recommend as sometimes you need your phone) but finally decided to order it from Amazon. It's really great! It has amazing sound quality, so many lovely sounds as well as white noise and it has an option for a nightlight. I would highly recommend!

thaisweetchill · 14/03/2023 22:41

Ollie the owl was our saviour... but rechargeable batteries tough as you go through them!

ehb102 · 14/03/2023 22:57

Brown noise also good. More like the rumbling of a car. Spotify has a 12 hour one.

artimesiasfootsteps · 14/03/2023 23:01

I use an old iPhone on Spotify for nights as my daughter needs continuous sound all night or she wakes up. For daytime the ewen duluxe is perfect, she loves it and will coo and smile at it until she nods off. I use them for different things.

Lunaloud · 14/03/2023 23:03

We just used old iPads or phones to play in the room, best thing ever!

As our DCs got older we’d sometimes put lullaby music on too.

Purrfecto · 14/03/2023 23:04

We used a marpac white noise machine. Doesn’t turn off automatically though. We used it for daytime naps and in the evening so we didn’t have to keep quiet, turned off when we went to bed.

TheBirdintheCave · 14/03/2023 23:04

We have the standard Dreamegg. No regrets (except the colour... I wanted the grey one but they only had it in orange).

Pleasepleasenomorecocomelon · 14/03/2023 23:07

My eldest had Ewan and like PPs I wasn't keen as it stopped after 20 mins. I can still remember now the feeling when it stopped then waaaaa 🙀 My youngest has the Myhummy. It's a turquoise heart inside a Teddy but can be taken out of the teddy. I ended up taking it out and using the machine on it's own so I'd just buy the machine if you can.

Pleasepleasenomorecocomelon · 14/03/2023 23:07

Forgot to say the Myhummy stays on for 12 hours and the battery seems to last ages.

Dillydallydilly · 14/03/2023 23:09

I love Ewen! And DS likes hugging it too. Doubles up as a soft bed companion.

morekidsthanhands · 14/03/2023 23:15

I used to have a white noise machine from amazon. It was only £20 or so and was great. I recently switched to playing white noise through an echo dot in the kids rooms. I prefer that as I can change volume and stop it through my phone rather than tip toeing in.
I really rate white noise - I have three great sleepers.

PointyMcguire · 14/03/2023 23:16

Ewan was a waste of time with DD, he’s bulky, I spend most of my time trying to convince the dogs not to steal him and he has absolutely zero effect on DD. He also got stuck on the creepy shushing/breathing sound the other day and it sounded like we were in a modern day Edgar Allan Poe novel until DH removed the batteries.

Careerdilemma · 14/03/2023 23:18

Even better than white noise are ones that basically go shhhhh shhhhh on repeat. I loved my shhher, it was an owl shaped one from Amazon with various modes, including a continuous shhh. Rechargeable too.
