Just asking for recommendations please.

What are the best ones? Is it worth the extra money for Ewan the Deluxe sheep?
My poor DD has a poor sleeper so I'd like to get her one.

Alexa and Spotify. Ocean wave sounds work for us, and have built a 10 hour playlist. Be warned, I now need this myself- but much better quality sleep for me since starting.

Just get an Alexa device. That way you can try it different noises with Spotify, have it on continual loop if necessary, adjust volume on your phone , and its useful in the day/afterwards. They also work well as baby monitors in a pinch.

We use Alexa, also had an actual white noise machine off Amazon for a couple of years. Ewan and similar were a waste of money, too quiet to be effective.

@Toddlerteaplease
He was born at 29+2 weeks so was in NICU and SCBU for 8 weeks. We joked he'd need the beeps and buzzes at home as the silence would be too quiet!

Thank you for your recommendation. I'll tell my DD.

We play white noise on the Sonos (for the puppy 😂)

If you have tablet/old phone and speaker that can be used for this, it’s def the cheapest option (recently discovered iPhone and iPad have white noise built in) Likewise if already have Alexa in the room.

If don’t have the above, a cheap plug in white noise machine from Amazon is perfect, less than half the price of Ewan and no batteries to replace. Most also play lots of other sounds - I use the river/rainfall ones when I want to focus and lots of background noise disturbing me!

On Spotify you can actually get ambient hospital noise on loop!

I used to put on youtube. You have a fan noise that goes through the night. My children slept so well listening to that. Its like having a fan on during hot summer nights, so soothing. But keep it at a nice, low-ish volume.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/03/2023 11:03

@Moonflower12 I've heard many parents of NICU graduates, say that their baby finds home to quiet.

BridieConvert · 15/03/2023 13:24

I've got a google nest in my 2yo's room and an echo dot in the baby's room. They both have white noise settings that will play all night.
I also have an Ollie owl but the issue with that (and Ewan!) is that they only stay on for 20 mins whereas I've found having the low level of white noise on constantly is better.

Hi @Moonflower12 thanks for posting! Loads of great ideas here. You might also like to take a look at our round-up of the best white noise machines, it's based on Mumsnetter recommendations. If you have any thoughts or feedback on the article, do get in touch💐
