Am I okay leaving my cats alone overnight?

I have 2 cats who are 1.
Wednesday I have been invited to a works awards night which would mean I will have to leave the cats from 3pm Wednesday night till 10am Thursday morning.
I obviously will feed and leave them water etc
I leave them normally for 11 hours a day when I go to work and they are fine ..I've just never left them overnight before so I'm a bit worried
My dad (who normally has them ) is on holiday and the local cattery is full (tbh I don't really want them to go there anyway) as they are indoor cats and are happy in their own home.

Yes, fine. We do it all the time.

tinselandjoy · 14/03/2023 09:10

Buy them a cat mate automatic car feeder, they will be absolutely fine.

SomePeopleAreJustBloodyStupid · 14/03/2023 09:10

19 hours is a long time. I'd say get a cat-sitter to call in during the evening

I’m sure they’ll be fine too. Just be prepared to be punished for doing so when you get back. After the initial ‘it’s been the end of the world’ traditional greeting.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 14/03/2023 09:14

They will either sleep peacefully

or

invite all their friends round, turn the kitchen upside down and scatter food all over it, caterwaul loudly ensemble so wake the neighbours, have unprotected sex on your bed , and pee on the stairs. Then they will have a major fight which will result in someone’s ear being permanently damaged. Police and ambulance services will be involved, although as long as you turn of the electricity before you leave, they probably won’t be able to burn the house down by playing with the cooker.

probably the first option, though.

Sprogonthetyne · 14/03/2023 09:14

Lots of attention both days and I'm sure they will be fine. Give them their normal tea just before you go and leave a couple of bowls of dry food and water in different places aroundthe house, in case one gets spilled just after you leave.

IClaudine · 14/03/2023 09:15

Agree with getting a cat feeder. They will be fine for a night, even two.

ThisNameIsNotAvailable · 14/03/2023 09:15

It’s absolutely fine, especially as you have a couple. Leave them plenty of food and water.

Deathbyfluffy · 14/03/2023 09:15

Automatic timers set and it’ll be fine 🙂
We leave ours regularly and they’re absolutely grand with it - apart from a bit of sulking when we get home!

BarbaraofSeville · 14/03/2023 09:15

I have quite severe 'cat health' anxiety when I'm away and I'd be fine with that.

It's just an early tea and a late breakfast and I'd make sure they had plenty of dry food as well as water and a clean litter tray or two if applicable to keep them going in between.

Woodywasatwat · 14/03/2023 09:16

Of course. Just leave plenty of food and water. I don’t see my cat for days sometimes.

He comes in the kitchen to eat, drink and use the littler tray. I only know that because his bowl is empty and I have to clean out the tray.

I sometimes scratch a glimpse of him heading back up the stairs to what ever comfortable spot he’s made home self.

But otherwise, he’s off sleeping in his various hiding spots, happy as larry (he refuses to go outside unless it’s baking hot and he can lay in a sunny spot all day).

Sunshineandrainbow · 14/03/2023 09:16

Yes I would do this. I would maybe leave the radio on so there is some talking in the house. My cat would sleep for most of that period.
Have fun!

Woodywasatwat · 14/03/2023 09:18

I’ve realised that I am basically just a servant to this creature who couldn’t give a shit about me.

QueefQueen80s · 14/03/2023 09:20

I've left mine much longer! Cats are fine.

RoseBucket · 14/03/2023 09:20

Yes fine and unless they need meds they don’t need a cat feeder or sitter for overnight!

2chocolateoranges · 14/03/2023 09:21

We have done it for one night and bought an automatic feeder. Worked well for us.

JorisBonson · 14/03/2023 09:21

I always get an overnight cat sitter but, as PP mentioned, I have one on medication (and am a very overprotective mother).

If you're really worried about it have a look on Cat in a Flat and see who is local to you.

SoggyGround · 14/03/2023 09:23

They will be fine. I regularly have to leave mine overnight and don't have a sitter or automatic feeder. Leave plenty of dried food and lots of water in case it gets knocked over or you are delayed. And plenty of litter trays (you should have 3 trays anyway for 2 cats). Enjoy your night!

Nimbostratus100 · 14/03/2023 09:24

Ours are fine overnight, regularly

SoggyGround · 14/03/2023 09:27

Oh meant to add that I have security cameras in the house and whenever I check them they're asleep!!

PaulRuddDoesntAge · 14/03/2023 09:27

Yeah absolutely fine. A cattery probably wouldn’t and shouldn’t accept them for one night anyway as the upheaval isn’t necessary and could cause them unnecessary stress. Mine is fine for two nights on his own but admittedly he is older and has no health needs etc

LakeTiticaca · 14/03/2023 09:29

They will be absolutely fine as long as they have access to food, water and litter tray.
I've left mine for 24 hours on numerous occasions and apart from the accusatory glares when we get home, everything was fine 😆

denpark · 14/03/2023 09:31

Yes. They're cats, not babies. Leave them food and don't stress. Not sure why you're concerned if you leave them during the day. Makes zero sense.

denpark · 14/03/2023 09:32

SomePeopleAreJustBloodyStupid · 14/03/2023 09:10

19 hours is a long time. I'd say get a cat-sitter to call in during the evening

Seriously? They're not children. I really hope this is a joke!

WinterMusings · 14/03/2023 09:33

They'll be fine. They'll sleep!

just leave dry food & water.

But do you not have a neighbour that would pop in, check on them, top up biscuits/give dinner etc?
