Ideas on how to keep birds out of tree

We have quite a tall silver birch in our garden. Don't have the funds to have it removed at the minute.
Any ideas on how we can deter birds from using our tree?

I wonder if it would be possible to modify the ground under the tree in such a way that the poo would be less of an issue? I don't mean using the sandpaper that you put in budgie cages Grin. Some sort of mulch or gravel that you could rake over quite thoroughly to shake the poo down a bit?

Is this the one?

She might not sound quite so ridiculous complaining about poos from the inhabitants of the tree then!!

maybe.

ttacticall · 11/03/2023 13:21

If it bothers you that much, put a fence round the bottom of the tree to keep your child and dog out of the area.
But leave the tree alone and leave the birds alone, please.

You need to start investing in a Hedge Fund.

Sell the house or buy an air rifle.

Problem solved

m1s · 11/03/2023 13:34

@GoodChat regarding dodgy seeds. There's a huge allotment nearby. May be the reason? But it's always been there and the pooing has never been this bad before

@toomuchlaundry thank you for making me feel like I'm not the only one who has this issue

Can you attract the pigeons to one of the literally hundreds of other trees instead, with - um - pheromones?
(OK i haven’t thought this through fully)

And also @Workinghardeveryday

If the piles of poo are as big as you make out, I suspect that your dog might be the problem, not the birds!

m1s · 11/03/2023 13:43

@Oldnproud 😂 funny. Do you know the difference?
Also when I say big, I mean big piles for bird poo. Not just a few spread out like you would normally expect. Like a PP has experienced, can pick it up with a dog poo bag. In multiple places.

What?! I'm always trying to attract more birds! I find it quite upsetting to think of someone not wanting birds in their tree.

AlwaysGinPlease · 11/03/2023 13:50

I feed birds and have no problem. I fail to believe you have so much bird poop.

Lavender14 · 11/03/2023 13:50

If there's an increase in the levels of poo is it possible they've built a nest in the tree? If so I'd offer them an alternative nearby in a spot you don't mind them being at. We have a bird feeder at the bottom of the garden out of the way from where we sit etc so attracts them to that side. You say your little one is getting vaccinated, is it possible you're just more aware of it given that he's getting ready to be outside more? We also just give the place a hose down from time to time when it's bad.

Useyourfork · 11/03/2023 14:05

This is who we use. (CAT-1) They were really good and only needed one visit and never had the problem again.

The glue only works if you intend on making bird pie.

Whatever you do, I'm going to copy it OP. Yes, birds are lovely - blackbirds, robins, sparrows etc. All delightful. Wood pigeons that sit on the same branch of one tree and shit until there's a pile a foot in diameter and an inch tall need to sod off back to their wood. Letting grass grow doesn't work if the favourite tree is over the patio!

Redebs · 11/03/2023 14:22

Plant more trees.

😁
