Period pants, has anyone tried multiple brands and found the best?

I've always just used tampons and pads, have to double up as one isn't enough.

DD is coming up on 9 so I've been thinking about period pants because they seem to be a good solution for starting out.

So I decided it would be a good idea for me to try a few brands to see which are best. So far:

Sainsburys Love Luna range, reasonably priced but a bit baggy around the gusset so ended up with leakage

Primark, cheap, better fitting but feel a bit bulky

What range have you found best, id like to avoid spending a fortune buying 20 different crap ranges before hitting on a good one if I can help it.

I've tried lots and the only ones I've found to work are a brand called WUKA from superdrug.

catfunk · 11/03/2023 11:48

I haven't tried lots but I get very heavy periods with flooding especially overnight. I bought some of m&s own brand heavy absorbency to use with tampons and they're fantastic. v comfy and I can even wear them for bed.

IdontPracticeSanteria · 11/03/2023 11:55

I have four pairs of the Wuka ones. I bought from the Wuka website directly.

Had no issues with them whatsoever. I only bought two pairs initially, then went on to purchase more.

I like M&S, been using for approx 9 months or so. Had 1 leak at night time, but I do move a lot in my sleep.
On heavier days I use a tampon and heavy period pant.
I absolutely love them & so much better for the environment

Claysta · 11/03/2023 12:09

My 11 year old is using the M&S ones (come in a pack of 3) and loves them. I picked some more up yesterday as they were half price in their sale.

moonpixel · 11/03/2023 12:11

DD had a leak with M&S - i use them all the time for minor bladder leakage and find the quality is quite poor (I only use them because I have bought them already) - the waistbands are coming off and loose threads on most of them after just a couple of months.

JewelTheft · 11/03/2023 14:11

Modi body and flowette are both reliable and seemingly long lasting, after around 12 months of use no loose stiching etc so far.

Scrambledbeans · 11/03/2023 14:13

I’ve tried loads of different brands but for price and options I really rate the Cheeky Wipes ones. They have a new bamboo shorts style which is really lovely. My 8 year old also has continence issues so wears them daily in a a different fit.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 11/03/2023 14:30

Thank you everyone. Wuka will be my next trial I think. Part of the problem is my body shape I think, apple shaped with no butt to speak of so I tend to have problems finding nicely fitting knickers, they're either tight on the waist or loose on the butt and period pants need to be snug enough to not leak.

I don’t recommend Modibodi have been using for 2 years and there are holes in the fabric around the gusset in multiple pairs. Terrible quality.

Diorinthecountry · 11/03/2023 14:36

Thanks for the thread @FatAgainItsLettuceTime I have been wondering what ones to buy for myself. I've never tried them before. I am fed up of bleaching sheets and cleaning my mattress each month.

SausageRoll2020 · 11/03/2023 14:40

I originally bought Thinx a few years ago when they had to be ordered from the USA as weren't really available in the UK. They were excellent, lasted years. I think they are now available in Boots but not 100% sure.

I tried Wuka from superdrug and found the fit really uncomfortable, but that's probably a personal thing based on each individuals body shape.

Most recently purchased some from M&S which are super comfortable, the most breathable fabric of the lot and able to cope with heavier than usual bleeding following a gynaecological procedure.

LadyR77 · 11/03/2023 14:41

Another vote for M&S here. Really comfy and I've never had any leaks, despite heavy periods.

RachelGreensHair · 11/03/2023 14:41

Modibodi was a waste of money, I felt the material didn't breathe and the bit in the middle was so think.

Laquila · 11/03/2023 14:42

I find the M&S ones very comfortable but I use a cup even with the heavy absorbency ones, otherwise I'd be changing them every couple of hours on some days!

The Cheeky Wipes ones (the lace-topped ones) are similar quality/absorbency for me, I'd say, but don't fit as well - a bit too low-cut for my body shape so I don't feel as secure in them. The M&S ones seem to stretch every way, which is comfier.

smileyplant · 11/03/2023 14:43

I've only tried one brand the M&S ones but they have been fantastic! Would defo recommend!

prampushingdownthehighst · 11/03/2023 14:44

M and S were absolute life savers after I had a mirena fitted, God it was a miserable few weeks but these gave me a huge peace of mind when out and about.

I have found this too which is such a shame because fit wise they are so much better than the cheaper versions I’ve tried (cheeky wipes for eg). They did actually exchange some for me but say that the product life is 6 months which I don’t think is long at all, or fits well with eco credentials etc.

FiddleLeaf · 11/03/2023 14:45

I love Modi Bodi and have been using them for a few years. Still super absorbent & comfortable.

Velvian · 11/03/2023 14:46

DD uses the M&S heavy ones. She has to change in the middle of the day on her 2 heaviest days. Occasional slight leak overnight, but not too bad. She doesn't use anything else. They are so much better for her than pads, much easier to manage.

Modibodi are just ridiculously expensive in comparison to M&S.

SirChenjins · 11/03/2023 14:49

Cheeky Wipes without a doubt, closely followed by Primark for lighter days. Modibodi are terrible - very odd gaping fit around the gusset so they leak, and the full briefs are cut so high on the leg they leave half your bum cheeks exposed.

@Scrambledbeans snap! I love the Cheeky pants, they're not horrendously expensive and not once have I leaked, despite awful heavy periods 4mo PP.

SellFridges · 11/03/2023 14:50

I’ve had no problem with Modibodi. I have some M&S for lighter days but find they don’t come up high at the front so you can get leaks if you’re sat down a lot and things move around.

kegofcoffee · 11/03/2023 15:03

Another vote for M&S.

BrutusMcDogface · 11/03/2023 15:05

I only have cheeky wipes ones and they are great but so expensive! I might look into M&S ones.
