By some crazy miracle, I'm going to the Eurovision final in May!!!

There doesn't seem to be any reasonably-priced hotels/ Air Bnb left though? Are there any websites I might be missing?

Which cities/ towns are nearby and easy enough to get to at night?

Ta very much!

I'm not sure the trains will be that bad. Six thousand people is nothing by comparison with the 54,000 capacity of Anfield (yes I know a lot of attendees for the football will be locals, but a lot of them won't).

Anfield isn’t in the city centre.

There’s a fan zone in the Pier Head which holds 20,000 and they are expecting that to be at full capacity. Nearly every bar and hotel in the city centre are putting on big screen events. You have all the attendees plus the people who will be working.

it will be rammed, everywhere. Grand National day is chaotic, Eurovision will be many, many times bigger than that.

NotFromAroundThere · 08/03/2023 20:19

There's Eurovision City too, a place near the arena to watch the show live. That willl attract thousands too, surely?

Look around Warrington or Birchwood and drive or use a taxi

MrsWhites · 08/03/2023 20:28

There are travellodges on Edge Lane and Aigbirth Road for less than £250, they are both within 10 min taxi ride and both on well serviced public transport routes into the city.

I don’t think you’ll get closer or cheaper than that.

I live about 15 min outside of the city and know of people who have rented out their house for a few thousand pounds for the weekend so very few places will still be available at a reasonable rate!

Hintofreality · 08/03/2023 20:30

Just read that the final
isn’t expected to finish until midnight so getting the train anywhere isn’t an option.
Even if you drove in and out of Liverpool I’d imagine parking is going to be an issue.

Snippit · 08/03/2023 21:06

As soon as they knew they got the contest all the hotels/accommodation increased their prices, 🤷‍♀️

NotFromAroundThere · 08/03/2023 21:32

Would the Edge Hill Travelodge be walkable?

About a 40 min walk. Loads of buses tho. And train station. Bus ten mins. Taxi about 7 quid and loads of taxis

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/03/2023 21:36

The Adelphi does have rooms available on Booking.com but they want £750 for the night

Not to derail, but is that the same hotel that they had the TV fly-on-the-wall series about some years ago - that, iirc, didn't show it in a very good light, to say the least?! Or am I confusing it with somewhere else? Mind, that was a long time ago, wherever it was.

Well, I have secured tickets in the last three shows on sale.

I don't know how. I literally don't know. Dumb luck.

It's not been dumb luck that I've prebooked cancellable accommodation in all potential host cities though.

Lucky you (grrrr!!!!)! But there are people who have not only been to what seems like every contest this millennium, but who talk about it confidently as though there's never any doubt whatsoever that they can get tickets. Maybe they're just very high up in this here fanclub and have a special guaranteed allocation?

There was somebody in the discussion on Jeremy Vine's radio show who said that they'd been at the head of the online queue from 10:45. Did I miss something obvious, or did it not let you do anything to join until 11:50? Or did they have a special website, privilege access code or some kind of iffily-legal software?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/03/2023 21:38

....also, what do you do about booking flights when it's in other countries? Are they refundable too, if you don't get tickets, or do you just risk it and take the hit if you aren't in a position to use the flights?

SilentBob · 08/03/2023 21:44

Rainhill Hall- train from Lime Street to Rainhill, taxi from station to Rainhill Hall. It's showing £268 on booking.com for that night at the moment but I'd be quick if you want it! (I Live and work in Rainhill, so have done the journey many a time!)

There is also the village hotel in Whiston you might want to keep an eye on, it is full at the moment but if people cancel you might snag a relative bargain there (again, train from Line street, taxi to hotel)

SilentBob · 08/03/2023 21:51

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll You're absolutely not misremembering, The Adelphi Liverpool was indeed the one on the TV programme. It was a long time ago, I grant you. But it has not improved one iota.

Diversion · 08/03/2023 21:56

Try Preston, the train to Liverpool is OK from there and we actually now have a choice of hotels.

allmycats · 08/03/2023 21:57

Why not rent a motor home locally to you and drive up and stay in it

GeneandFred · 09/03/2023 00:36

Try Prescot. It's a small town 25 mins drive away and on a train line. Shakespeare theatre just gone up there so it's bound to have some new accommodations for that. I live in Liverpool and will be renting out my house for the foreseeable if I didn't have tenants you'd be welcome to rent it for a night or so. I know that doesn't help you right now 🤣

I mean I’ve walked that way past it when I haven’t been able to get a taxi but I wouldn’t recommend it, it’s probably about an hour, main roads though so safe enough.

I think you’d get a taxi that far though, it’ll be long journeys that taxi drivers won’t want to do and possibly night buses will still be going and that’s the main road into the city centre so great for buses. No way will a taxi be £7 though, isn’t even that cheap on a normal Saturday night never mind Eurovision!

crimsonlake · 09/03/2023 17:19

I live 20 mins outside Liverpool, I might end up being tempted to rent out my two spare rooms.

TheCaddieisaBaddie · 09/03/2023 17:41

What about Premier Inn at aintree? 5 min walk to Aintree Old Roan train station, train into Central Station. Showing as £152 for a night.

NotFromAroundThere · 09/03/2023 17:46

I've managed to find a place now. Smile

How many nights do you want to stay and are you nice normal people? I have a spare room 🤣

Toddlerteaplease · 12/03/2023 15:09

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll I remember that. It was when the grand national was called off because of a bombscare, with hundreds of people stranded in Liverpool. They were flogging mattress on the floor for mega bucks. It's not inproved.
