By some crazy miracle, I'm going to the Eurovision final in May!!!

There doesn't seem to be any reasonably-priced hotels/ Air Bnb left though? Are there any websites I might be missing?

Which cities/ towns are nearby and easy enough to get to at night?

Ta very much!

AFAIK there has in the past been a priority system for "massive Eurovision fans".

Ah, this I didn't know! I wonder how you qualify as a 'massive' fan, though?! And if an obvious definition of a 'massive' fan is that you've been to the live shows for lots of years, how do you first get your foot in the door and get tickets to the first one?!

You have to be in the fanclubs.
The OGAE one linked above did get some tickets to allocate before the general sale- their ballot was held on 19/2 but you had to have been a member for some time before being allowed to participate in the ballot. I was in the fanclub since 2021 and could only be ballotted for some of the sales, not the final etc.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/03/2023 17:23

Ah, thanks - I didn't even know they had an official fanclub. They'd probably see that as absolute proof that I'm NOT a 'proper' fan, mind!

I got lost trying to understand the machinations of the ballot rules tbh. 🤣
In the end I joined The Queue but to no avail.

As a massive Eurovision fan who had been planning the logistics for months, queued for hours and didn't get tickets, all I have to say is I hope you enjoy (and 😭😤😡)

Keep an eye on the two central Liverpool Premier Inn websites. Those who booked fully refundable rooms there in preparation but didn't get tickets will probs release those bookings in due course. £250/night, fyi.

On booking.com there's accommodation in Aughton for less than £200 for the night, 30 mins on the train into Liverpool. It looks like it's a 5 min cab ride to Augton Park train station, but whether you'd struggle with a cab at that time?

The trains stop running around 11pm, ai wouldn’t bank on being able to get anywhere that way.
Taxis will be in very short supply and extortionate, they are expecting over 20,000 people in the Eurovision Vullage at the Pier Head alone!

OP, your best bet would be to keep an eye for an enterprising student renting their accommodation out for the night.

Scouser here. Prices for anything left in the city centre are astronomical, you could look at surrounding areas. Booking.com has a couple of options still available for slightly more reasonable costs but obviously will have to factor in taxi costs.

Rainhill hall (just of m62 - about 20 min from
city centre)
Everglades hotel widnes (probably about 25 min)
Inglewood Manor Wirral (30 min away over the river Mersey via tunnel)
Premier inn Warrington central (about 45 min but very close to train station so easy to get to Liverpool earlier in the day)

Hintofreality · 08/03/2023 18:02

The Adelphi does have rooms available on Booking.com but they want £750 for the night 🤣🤣🤣

There’s a one bedroom apartment in Chavasse Park on there, that’s minutes away from the arena. At £540 I would snap that up because it’s the best you’ll get.

Manybeards · 08/03/2023 18:04

Try Southport

Maxwelll · 08/03/2023 18:05

@Hintofreality 23:47 is the last train. People are surely going to be able to leave Liverpool and get to surrounding places though.

Eurovision will finish around 11pm I assume, it’s about a 15 minute walk from the Arena to with James Street or Moorfields station. The queues will be huge, I really wouldn’t bank on getting on that last train.

Justleaveitblankthen · 08/03/2023 18:58

When the Grand National is on, lots of the Irish crowd stay over in Southport. Could be worth a try?

Trying81 · 08/03/2023 19:02

St Helens or Wigan and prebook a return taxi - it’d be £100 ish to either at a guess and hotels will be cheap, especially if you get a premier inn or similar close to the M58

Orrell in Wigan, The Mount is a good spot right off the motorway

It's probably a dim question, but how come they never seem to consider choosing a football stadium for a venue - or somewhere like Wimbledon centre court where they already have a roof? Would it simply not work logistically and with all the tech needed, or is it just that they prefer a more 'intimate' venue?

Maybe the organisers take the view that it's primarily an event to watch on TV and that the audience are just there to add atmosphere for that TV show, with their own personal elation at being there just a side-benefit to their main purpose; but 6,000 tickets for an event that millions across Europe want to attend seems pitifully low. I know it's 6,000 for each of nine different shows, but there seem to be a lot of people who somehow manage to wangle going to multiple shows.

I do wonder how a lot of people end up going every year, or at least to several different ones - and they're never in any doubt that they will be going. Do they all know the organisers or some way of circumventing the queues for us normal folk?

It's always explained away with 'Oh, but they are MASSIVE Eurovision fans' - which I have no doubt of at all; but it seems a bit like somebody winning the lottery jackpot 20 times and it being 'justified' with 'Ah, but they have ALWAYS loved the lottery'! In fact, if they have loads of money available, that seems much less unlikely, as the lottery happens twice every week and doesn't limit how many tickets they sell, so you could buy 20 million tickets for a draw if you could afford them!

Well, I have secured tickets in the last three shows on sale.

I don't know how. I literally don't know. Dumb luck.

It's not been dumb luck that I've prebooked cancellable accommodation in all potential host cities though.

Ignore me - fully booked as are most in Wigan.

I’d still look at similar areas though, there’ll be some rooms available and look on Facebook for recommendations for local taxi firms

thecatsthecats · 08/03/2023 19:08

Oh and I'm not in the fan club!

tinytemper66 · 08/03/2023 19:18

North Wales if you can travel into Liverpool easily enough. I read that it has been highlighted as an alternative for Liverpool given the costs.

notprincehamlet · 08/03/2023 19:19

Premier Inn in Greasby, bus into Liverpool stops outside?

Crabwoman · 08/03/2023 19:19

Travel lodge in New Brighton and Premier Inn In Birkenhead (both in Wirral) appear to have rooms left (albeit expensive).
They are both less than 10 mins walk to train stations with direct trains.

The Premier Inn is a stones throw from the Birkenhead Tunnel which will deposit you close to the arena.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/03/2023 19:20

I stay in Hale Village. Several nice B&B's there.

cptartapp · 08/03/2023 19:23

We're 45 minutes away with a spare room. Beginning to think we could offer a drop off and pick up service too and make a killing!

DeathMetalMum · 08/03/2023 19:28

Chester is 45-50 minutes from Liverpool on the train last time I checked last train is 11.30 from Liverpool. It's a local line and tickets are fairly priced. Lots of hotels in Chester, two premier inns and a travel lodge in the city centre, theres even Roomz private apartments and plenty of other options. Kirby and New Brighton would also be worthwhile looking at. Similar distance.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 08/03/2023 19:36

Try Oxton airbnbs - quick train over to Liverpool via Birkenhead central which is a short taxi from Oxton village. Enjoy!

Manybeards · 08/03/2023 19:38

Trains will be rammed, if you’ve ever seen what it’s like when Aintree’s on, this will be 10 x worse. Any word if they’re putting extra services on (or is that laughable !!)

EvilRingahBitch · 08/03/2023 19:58

I'm not sure the trains will be that bad. Six thousand people is nothing by comparison with the 54,000 capacity of Anfield (yes I know a lot of attendees for the football will be locals, but a lot of them won't).

Manybeards · 08/03/2023 19:59

It’s not just the arena though is it ?
