What's the nicest child friendly curry?

My son loves school dinner curry- it's his favourite meal but any curry that I have bought/ made he doesn't like! Has any one got any suggestions that I could either buy or make?

This Butter chicken is nice.

Also The Dinner Lady cook book has a chicken curry recipe but I can’t find it online.

Daal or butter chicken are good options. But don’t be held back by thinking of food as being child friendly or not. I would offer the types of curry you like maybe with the chilli scaled down to start with. Some kids really like spicy food!

The mild Maykway curry powder. You can add natural yogurt to cool it down even more if you need to.

DS has always liked a jalfrezi or a rogan josh.

Okunevo · 06/03/2023 18:00

I'm not sure what you mean by child friendly, hidden veg?

Doshoom Ruby Chicken curry with Makani sauce

Have you tried the mayflower box mix? My 3yo loves it!

I think the mayflower curry is about as close as you will get. They smell identical to school curry.
You buy it in boxes I've found it at b&m and home bargains.

Homepride mild curry

RaininSummer · 06/03/2023 18:24

Lentil Dahl is usually popular with kids

Whattheladybird · 06/03/2023 18:25

I make a mild curry (sometimes based on a bitter chicken recipe in Allegra McEvedy’s family cookbook) and then use turmeric and tomato paste under direction to make it the right colour.

once it’s the right colour they don’t mind massively what it actually tastes like!

lieselotte · 06/03/2023 18:26

My ds is quite fussy but he will eat a curry made with this widely available chicken korma sauce/paste. I don't think it's even that mild. I just add coconut milk to it, although it also invites you to add double cream!!!!!

The school curry is more like a fruity chicken stew, it’s not spicy at all, the closest you can buy is the M&S mini meal fruity curry and rice, I think they are 2 for £5 at the moment, you could buy it and then decipher what’s in it and make a similar one yourself.

ehb102 · 06/03/2023 18:37

I use Patak's korma paste and add yoghurt. Coconut cream is even nicer. It's my lazy supper.

Why are you calling me names? It wasn't clear what her child's likes and dislikes were. DS used to pick veg out of his curry as a toddler 😕.

My 3 year old thoroughly enjoyed this, recently. I used the company's spices hence the recipe, and they're lovely, but I'm sure you could sub with another brand or paste.

He ate tons of this lentil curry as a weaning baby too, but won't entertain it now. 😭 www.foodforfitness.co.uk/recipes/lentil-curry-vegetarian/?fbclid=IwAR0LfnLesAWG7C8pYLF9AAP6Fyz8FIZBMfoO6B1jEBgoX8R24gdZKxqcCuI

Not really a curry, but DS loves a keema shepherd's pie. It's very mild and you can swap peas for any grated veg, DS won't eat peas!

I have the school curry recipe but also have a (revolting sounding ) recipe from MIL using condensed soup - if you want them PM me

NeonRaptor · 06/03/2023 19:58

This one is very mild and my daughter loved it.

This one is great, I do it with chicken thighs. Not quick but good for the whole family including adults, as not like school dinners!

This was a slam dunk winner with all of DS's fussy friends st primary. Another school mum passed the recipe on and it's one of our staples now (tho I ramp up the chillies/ spice a bit as well as making double to portion & freeze).

My 4 year old will eat Anabelle karmel curry, it's a ready meal but sure you could find recipe
