My just turned 1yo has spent 40 mins walking back and forth between me and DH (a skill she has just mastered).

She's now laughing her head off feeding DH pancake, and he's laughing back whilst eating it.

The small wins are sometimes the best ones, let's all share our small wins!

That's so special!

bebobaby · 05/03/2023 20:59

I took a nap! It's my biggest win with 2 kids under 4!!!

sittingonacornflake · 05/03/2023 21:00

I love this!

My DS learnt to ride a bike without stabilisers this weekend. He was so proud of himself (as was I!)

Thank you for this post. It made me actually smile

Well done to your son too @sittingonacornflake

SorryForTheRant · 05/03/2023 21:04

@onlyoneoftheregimentinstep thank you!

@bebobaby I asked my mum today "will I ever not be tired again", she said probs around when my baby is 8, unless I have another in which case it's when the youngest is 8

@sittingonacornflake this is amazing!!!

bloodywhitecat · 05/03/2023 21:05

What a lovely thread.

I had two small ex-fosterlings here yesterday, it was the first time one of them had been back since their adoption last summer. The other one often asks to come and play and it warms my heart to have them back but to watch them go home with mummy and daddy at the end of the visit.

My DS was home for the weekend too, I don't see him as much as I'd like so it was lovely to have him here too.

Stinkypup · 05/03/2023 21:05

Aw after a shitty week (two weeks really) this made me smile too.
My youngest son just told me his hit chicken baguette was really good. He doesn't often praise food so this was a win

bebobaby · 05/03/2023 21:08

@SorryForTheRant I totally agree kids are such a huge responsibility and make us so tired!!!. I just left them with DH and had a nap felt like I was floating among the clouds. LOL

AliasGrape · 05/03/2023 21:09

My DD is 2.5 and has just started saying ‘Mummy I love you’ unprompted - or the latest is ‘I love you all my heart’ - I don’t know where she’s got that one from but it makes me melt each time.

Also playing with a toy stethoscope earlier she said ‘I need to hear your heart bumps mum’ 😍

And on an unrelated note my house is sparkling like a new pin after DH and I blitzed it today (and then went out for the rest of the day so it would stay that way!) -first time it’s been this clean and tidy in ages and will last only until DD gets up in the morning so I’m enjoying this very brief and orderly interlude.

googledidnthelp · 05/03/2023 21:09

My 18 month old has started signing when he needs his nappy changed. Bit late to introduce signs as didn't anticipate late talking but here we are and he is picking things up so quickly and my heart melts knowing he can now ask for things

MissingGrandstand · 05/03/2023 21:09

@TheWomanTheyCallJayne glad it made you smile, too much gloom and doom out there sometimes

@bloodywhitecat you win this thread, I can't imagine the hard work you've had to put in to enjoy that small win, you massively deserve it!

@Stinkypup you must be a better cook than me, no one would ever compliment my sandwiches! The pancakes were straight out of the packet from Aldi 😂

What a lovely thread. Always look for the little joys. DH joined me on a dog walk. Sounds silly but he works full time so I generally go alone. It was really nice.

MissingGrandstand · 05/03/2023 21:12

@AliasGrape do you want to come and clean mine? I talk about the small wins as im trying to enjoy them whilst my house looks like we've been ransacked by burglars...

We've just been on holiday with friends and while DD (21 months) had a really lovely time, she is so happy to be home and it's lovely to see her enjoying all of the mundane stuff at home.

She sat us both on the bottom stair tonight, snuggled in between us, and kept saying "Mummy, Mama, [own name], home" with a huge grin.

Ransacked by burglars is us on a good day usually - about twice a year we get to the point where neither of us can stand it anymore and have a big blitz. Next one will probably be Autumn now!

NomadicSpirit · 05/03/2023 21:18

I spent yesterday doing an online meditation retreat. Spent 6 hours in silence, just focusing on myself and nothing and nobody else. Seemed rude to do so which reminded me how important it is to do it.

Also cleaned the bedroom and turned the mattress which always feels nice... And I knocked over some essential oil, so the room smells like a massage parlor. Just need some Enya playing and I'm sorted.

Murraydeservedit · 05/03/2023 21:24

My 21 year old is a police officer so sees some horrible stuff.

He came home from work this afternoon, immediately grabbed 2 year old dd for a big hug and said, “mum, there are some shitty parents in this world, thank you for loving us all, I love you more than you’ll ever know.”

I know he must have seen something awful today and that’s just horrendous for those involved but he knows that home is always safe for him and his younger siblings.

peachgreen · 05/03/2023 21:25

5yo DD gave DP a hug before he left this afternoon and he messaged me this evening to say it was the highlight of his weekend. Her dad died when she was 2 and I have been very careful and slow about introducing her to DP, who has been equally careful about not pushing anything with her but taking it at her pace. Still very early days but it’s the first time I’ve felt a glimmer of hope that she could her future could still contain someone who she feels is a father and it feels pretty good. Scary, but good. (Also sad, because I miss DH even more than ever. But that’s grief, the two things coexisting.)

peachgreen · 05/03/2023 21:27

Oh and also DD said to me this evening: “Mumma, I love you so much I could BURST”. No idea where she’s got it from but I loved it.

cornflakegeneration · 05/03/2023 21:28

I went to see Panic! At The Disco the other night after waiting for years to see them. Still absolutely buzzing as I think I'm a bit obsessed with Brendon Urie 😍

MissingGrandstand · 05/03/2023 21:49

These are amazing! @peachgreen that sounds like a massive step forward, that's a big win not a small win!

@cornflakegeneration well done you for having joy in your life, not my cup of tea but I so know the feeling (I'd love to say I'm cool but I lost my shit when I saw Blue a few weeks ago)

OP posts:
bloodywhitecat · 05/03/2023 22:52

@peachgreen that's lovely, you deserve every happiness (and your posts give me hope so thank you)

Weatherwax13 · 05/03/2023 22:59

@peachgreen I remember your story and just wanted to say I'm really happy for you. I'm sure it's bitter sweet,as you say, coexisting with grief. But such a bright spark of hope and possibility.

peachgreen · 06/03/2023 08:02

Thank you @bloodywhitecat and @Weatherwax13, that’s so so kind. It isn’t easy and I don’t think it will ever be easy again. But there are sparks of joy to be found at last and that’s something. @bloodywhitecat have hope, things will get better x

bebobaby · 06/03/2023 08:33

The little win that's made my day for today is I received a msg from the nursery which says my DD 4 is the Star of the Week. Such a happiness!!!!
