Ideas for small postable gift to unwrap for a 21st birthday

Just that really - I'm paying for an intensive driving course over summer holidays for the main present, but I'd like to send something to unwrap on the day. Any good thoughts?

DD, but totally un-girly, so no makeup, jewellery etc. I gave her a leather backpack for her 18th which was a big hit. Clothes, books etc used to be good but not so much now she lives in the big city. My only thought so far is some really nice wool socks, so more inspired ideas really needed....

If she likes gardening could you have a nice pot already planted up delivered to her. Only if she has a balcony or even tiny outdoor space.

Or a houseplant already in a decorative pot.
Some postal brownies go share with her housemates is another idea.

I've bought these in the past, they're lovely

DH has a leatherman micro and it's really lovely.

I really like my crane scissors (I keep them in my bedroom and use for snooping labels ant take them in holiday) and my beautiful leather pencil case which get better with age. It's wasn't expensive and was a leaving present from an colleague and I love it so much it's 12 years old now!

I know you said not girly but what about a mason Pearson hairbrush. Proper quality, last you your entire life gift (I only suggest this as I also don’t wear make up etc, but I do need to brush my hair and I’ve found having a decent brush revolutionary

Cutter and squidge postable brownie selection in time for her day. Arrives in a lovely box and is a real treat. DELICIOUS.

She has a collection of good pens & fancy ink, so definitely right lines but again hard to pick the right addition

If she’s into pens and inks maybe some Tomoe River notebooks. Especially if she’s into sheening/shimmer inks, it really shows off the inks better most other high quality paper and is expensive so a bit of a treat.

When I was at uni, I remember my Mum paying some homemade tiffin and shortbread in the post and that was very gratefully received.

Get her a few accessories for her car (for when she eventually passes her test and gets one), like a mobile phone holder/car charger, L plates, air freshener etc.

A coin or coin set? I got my nieces and nephew a 1/2 sovereign a few years ago. Gold only goes up in value and it's something that can be easily sold in an emergency.

Actually I have just checked the price, probably a bit beyond the budget but you can get silver coins for under £30.

If you have time then I'd suggest you make a 'this is your life' photo album of her first 21 years and send it to her on a memory stick.

A friend bought me a cheese hamper for my birthday and I swear I can't remember the last time a present excited me so much! 😂

Does she have a coffee maker? A nice coffee bean subscription would have gone down a treat for me at that age

Nordic socks
Gourmet Chocolate Pizza Company. They do lots of different things
Stitch holders
Stitch markers

We bought our DD a leather belt with metal holes for her going to uni gift. She loves it. A bit Suzy Q. Also a special vinyl album. Asda and IKEA sell wall frames to but these in so they take up no room.

It's Eldest DS 21st birthday today 🎂. He at uni in London so I have bought him one of these. Both (thankfully) got safely delivered along with some helium balloons. 🎈

Thank you so much everyone, some lovely thoughts here. I've ordered a mini multi-tool, as I'm sure she'll like and use that, plus I'm going to make some letter biscuits to post making up 'happy 21st birthday' for her & her friends. And @ODFOx I'm definitely going to take up your suggestion of a photo 'this is your life' on a memory stick. (DD doesn't really put pics on social media, so I think it'll be a nice thing for her to have to show her uni friends)

Also I can put them on a nice keyring memory stick, even if she isn't excited by the pics I know she'll use it as she's always stealing my memory sticks when she's home Grin
