Where are all your small kitchen electricals?

Do they fit in your kitchen ok or is it all cluttered.

I hate clutter but we seem to have it nevertheless

In the kitchen we have a kettle, the various tea/coffee/sugar jars, I then have my blender out on the top as Im going to need to use it every day. We also have a coffee machine and toaster. The microwave luckily is in a cupboard but we also have a slow cooker out on top, plus kitchen utensils next to the hob. Then of course theres the sink

But ideally I would like an airfryer, no room. I would like a pressure cooker/instant pot thing, no room.

Where do people put all their stuff, I see people's worktops and they are always so clear of 'stuff'.

Coffee machine lives out because it’s pretty
I don’t own an airfryer or slow cooker
I don’t have a kettle as we have a boiling water tap
Rest lives in a larder cupboard

Honestly, it’s always a trade off between convenience of having all the gadgets and having them ready to use, versus the neatness of it all being away. I hate clutter and I don’t use small appliances much so for me it’s fairly easy to stay neat.

Mine are in the breakfast cupboard. The coffee machine is fitted into a shelf, and the kettle and toaster and jars etc are on the little worktop inside the cupboard. Then I close the doors to hide them. Microwave is fitted into a different cupboard. Blender lives in a cupboard and I get it out when I need it.

RedRiverShore3 · 01/03/2023 20:40

Some of mine like the bread maker, soup maker, food processor are in the cupboard under the stairs with the food cupboard tins, jars etc. Ones that get used often like coffee machine, toaster, kettles are on the counter.

They get stored in the cellar when not in use. The kettle and the toaster stay out all the time.

We always have some other stuff on the kitchen counters. I’m not a fan of the operating theatre look.

bellac11 · 01/03/2023 21:19

I just know when things are in cupboards they dont get used. I cant bear the faff either of getting them out, putting away etc. Im not very strong so getting things in and out of cupboards is tricky

I wouldnt have space in cupboards either. An airfryers are big but I really want one!

Kettle, coffee machine and kenwood mixer and are out as they get used constantly and look nice, microwave is a fitted one in a cupboard (smallish kitchen so I need all the worktop space I can get).

Everything else, toaster, airfryer etc is an a cupboard. Air fryer is just a small one, and am debating whether to get rid of the slow cooker as we only use it a couple of times a year!

Riverlee · 01/03/2023 21:32

Kettle, toaster, microwave and air fryer on the work surface.

Sandwich maker and soup maker are in the a cupboard which is easy to get to. If they were in an inaccessible cupboard, then I wouldn’t use them. Blender and kitchen scales are in another cupboard.

Bread maker did live on the island for a while and got used regularly. Now in cupboard and not used so much.

Don’t have a slow cooker because I don’t want it out and have no more cupboard space.

bellac11 · 01/03/2023 21:33

I forgot about sandwich maker. I want one of those as well

RedRiverShore3 · 01/03/2023 21:35

Could you put the slow cooker away, and put the new air fryer in its place. Sandwich maker is quite small so that could keep in a cupboard

bellac11 · 01/03/2023 21:39

Well the slow cooker wouldnt be as big as the airfryer and its a really nice one so it looks nice on the worktop!!

I think I read you're not meant to have airfryers under cabinets either so we dont have any worktop thats not under cabinets.

Basically I want a much bigger kitchen!

All in our walk-in store cupboard as I don't like the work tops cluttered.

illiterato · 01/03/2023 21:44

Kettle, toaster, coffee machine and frother are on the counter. Microwave is built in ( double oven and the top oven is also a microwave). Rice cooker is in a cupboard. That’s it. Don’t actually have any other gadgets. Not sure if that’s unusual or not. I’m a simple cook and I don’t bake much so if I make a cake I just mix by hand. I do have a stick blender that lives in a drawer.

FiddleLeaf · 01/03/2023 21:46

I have a tall unit like this but with a door… and switched to a hot water tap so no kettle 👌🏼

Kettle and airfryer out. Bread maker is in the utility. Toaster, slow cooker, blenders, waffle maker, microwave in the pantry

RedRiverShore3 · 01/03/2023 21:52

Our worktops aren't clear but the kitchen is a long galley so there is a stretch of worktop below a window so no wall cupboards where the microwave, kitchenaid coffee machine, air fryer and velvetiser sit and they aren't really in the way as I wouldn't use that worktop much if it was clear and it stops DH leaving his clutter on it.

KatyN · 01/03/2023 21:52

We got a stove top kettle to save space on the worktop. And it looks pretty

CC4712 · 01/03/2023 21:55

We have just finishing renovating a derelict property, and spent 2yrs living in a tiny static caravan. I had NO space to leave any appliance out except a kettle. Everything was kept in the spare bedroom.

Designing the kitchen, the designer suggested everyone should have an 'appliance garage'!!! I assume this is like the pic posted up thread. I wish I had the space within the kitchen for an appliance exclusive cupboard.

Sometimes, you really do need to clear the clutter and keep things in cupboards or another room! Especially if they are used more often in say the winter, so no point IMO having them taking up valuable kitchen space, when they could be stored nearby.

dottypencilcase · 01/03/2023 22:01

I've got the air frier, toaster and kettle out but nothing else. We have a small kitchen and I HATE clutter.

EmbraWumman · 01/03/2023 22:02

I got rid of toaster which was on last legs and got an air fryer that is also a grill. Works great, no regrets!

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/03/2023 22:04

Not sure if anyone's told you but tea/coffee/sugar jars and the sink are not electricals.

RandomUsernameHere · 01/03/2023 22:05

Out on the worktop we have: kettle, coffee machine, air fryer, ice maker, magimix, toaster and bread maker. Just realised that's actually quite a lot Confused

Riverlee · 02/03/2023 09:00

@FiddleLeaf Thats such a good idea. Mentally storing that for when I have a new kitchen (not due for several years).

Babdoc · 02/03/2023 09:12

Just kettle, toaster, slow cooker and coffee machine out on worktops. Other gadgets such as mixer, liquidiser, food processor, in cupboards. Microwave is built in above the oven stack.
I don’t like the bare “operating theatre” look (mentioned by a PP) for kitchens either, so my worktops have a line of glass storage jars at the back, containing different coloured lentils, spices, sugars, herbs etc. Copper utensils hang on a visible rack, and the island usually has a flowering orchid or cut flowers.

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/03/2023 09:23

I moved house a year ago and was worried because the kitchen was half the size of my last one. I have

Bread maker
Food processor
Blender
Air dryer
Slow cooker
Pressure cooker
Loads of cook books
Toaster
Microwave
Health grill
Hand blender
Loads of different pans, bowls for baking and cooking

I ended up buying a pretty looking metal ikea shelving unit to put the gadgets and books on. What didn't fit on there went on the work surfaces, such as the health grill, toaster, food processor and microwave.

That took up loads of room so I bought a small metal table from IKEA and put that on a shelf without a cupboard over it and placed my bread bin on top, toaster underneath and kettle next to it. That freed up lots of space.

The biggest nightmare is actually the bins. There is nowhere for the bins to go to they go close to my fridge freezer, by the door and are completely in the way.

This is a new build! It only has space for 2 appliances and a cooker so we keep the tumble dryer outside in the back garden, in a keter for use in the winter. Can't do without the dishwasher.

In this day and age, the kitchen should be big enough for a large kitchen table. But it is tiny.
