Balloons being released

Funnybunny12 · 01/03/2023 10:37

I’ve just woken up to find two balloons in my garden one stuck on my tree and one in by the shed I only noticed it as my dog was sniffing around the ballon. They had a bit of card attached to the end with some heartfelt message on. I get that people do send offs in different ways but does no one think about the environment and animals.

Apologies folks.

  1. A combination of some, or all, of the above.
Zuffe · 01/03/2023 17:50

That was meant to say

-6. A combination of some, or all, of the above.

In the grand scheme of things I don’t think it’s worth bothering about. Lots of things affect the countryside and wildlife.

You can’t go through life banning everything you don’t like.

Ah ok. You don’t give a shit. Thanks for confirming.

waterlego · 01/03/2023 17:51

@Zuffe, you are very funny. Thank you for bringing some humour to this frustrating thread. 😂

FoxInSocksSatOnBlocks · 01/03/2023 17:52

You can get your knickers in a twist all you want 🤷‍♀️ Nothing will change, nor should it.

waterlego · 01/03/2023 17:57

You’ll be glad to know my knickers are untwisted @FoxInSocksSatOnBlocks. I just think you’re a bit of an idiot.

Monoplane · 01/03/2023 18:09

Zuffe · 01/03/2023 17:15

This is one of the easiest things to ban. Come on. Helium inflated balloons get banned.

Its not like moonshine or prostitution. There is never going to be a black market in helium inflated balloons.

And the businesses that sell them? People who make their living from this? They can just go bollocks can they?

Change will happen. Oh Yes.

Fox hunting was banned.

Smoking was banned.
Wood burners are getting banned.

We will soon have a new MN poster called.....

BalloonsInPacksGettingBannedInShops

Lazy fox.

Yes

Monoplane · 01/03/2023 18:14

Zuffe · 01/03/2023 18:10

Yes

I think that tells me everything I need to know about you.

You've got bigger problems than balloons to deal with.

DogInATent · 01/03/2023 18:19

Released balloons are litter and dangerous to livestock and wildlife.

But more importantly, the use of helium for recreational purposes should be banned. It's a non-renewable resource.

It is quite a thing to say to anyone "You've got bigger problems than balloons to deal with."

So go on. Expand please. State your case and make it full, thorough, diligent and readable to the end user please.

Zuffe · 01/03/2023 18:24

@Monoplane
And the businesses that sell them? People who make their living from this? They can just go bollocks can they?

Coal mining
Shipbuilding
Shoe and leather manufacturing
Iron and steel production
Clothing
Car manufacturing
Helium balloon sellers

Can you see what I did there?

countrygirl99 · 01/03/2023 18:24

FoxInSocksSatOnBlocks · 01/03/2023 16:17

Nothing to defend. I stand by what I said. We can’t ban everything.

Nobody can enjoy anything in life anymore without someone whinging and moaning and going on about waste and all that bullshit.

Don’t like balloons? Don’t use them. I’m not going to stop because I do like them.

Will you be paying the resulting vet/carcass disposal bills? Thought not.

gobbyshafto · 01/03/2023 18:25

Won't somebody think of the balloon manufacturers and sellers! It's not like there's millions of other manufactured goods they could make or sell.

ToSeeThroughToTheStars · 01/03/2023 18:36

Helium is a finite resource. Once it’s gone it’s gone.

People who release balloons into the air are massive fucking bellends. Every time I go out for a hike I end up carrying out helium balloons from hedges, fields and rivers/streams so I can throw them away safely. Selfish ignorant twats.

People who sell balloons can sell something else and people who release them can get to fuck.

Zuffe · 01/03/2023 18:38

And on that welcome summary note from @ToSeeThroughToTheStars .

I'm off to make a lasagne and enjoy a glass of barollo. Night night.

Yeah, you listed a load of industries whose loss caused mass unemployment and misery to untold numbers of people.

Are you trying to demonstrate that you have absolutely no empathy whatsoever? Because it's not necessary. I've worked that out already.

Furries · 02/03/2023 01:30

FoxInSocksSatOnBlocks · 01/03/2023 11:53

Oh ffs people will whinge about anything 🙄

Ha, that’s funny - you’ve just proved your own point!

Furries · 02/03/2023 01:33

I agree with the majority on here. Balloons and lanterns should be banned, they’re a blooming menace to wildlife and the environment.

Sadly, some people won’t care, but I hope that things change in the near future.

Additionally, I think fireworks should be, at best, limited to public displays only. But that’s a whole different thread.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 02/03/2023 01:37

Just as a matter of interest, what does everyone assume they're helium rather than hydrogen balloons?

The OP doesn't mention which.

HirplesWithHaggis · 02/03/2023 01:53

Because hydrogen balloons are explosive if mishandled.

DogInATent · 02/03/2023 07:20

@VeniVidiWeeWee because hydrogen is much harder to come by for the public. How likely do you think it is that a balloon release involves hydrogen filled balloons?

EyesOnThePies · 02/03/2023 09:56

Monoplane · 01/03/2023 18:09

And the businesses that sell them? People who make their living from this? They can just go bollocks can they?

They could develop
new ideas to sell for people celebrating or commemorating. Lots of products have evolved over the years as knowledge had increased.
