So i entered an online competition to win a flight home to see my mum and i got an email saying they want to talk to me !! but because of the time difference i have to wait until UK office times ARGHH i am freaking out. i had a bit of a cry as my brother died last year around now, so i know my mum will be feeling blue. So i am sooo hoping it is all true. has anyone heard of welcometofrank.com or www.redletterdays.co.uk?

It sounds exciting!

FortofPud · 01/03/2023 04:18

Yes to red letter days, they've been around for ages i think. Is that who you entered the competition with? Just be careful if its a uk competition but youre not a uk resident as that can be an issue sometimes. Fingers crossed though!

daisychain01 · 01/03/2023 04:22

I'm too cynical for words so I'd say don't whatever you do part with your bank or credit card details at any stage in the process, for example if they say they want to credit the funds to your account, I'd be really really cautious. If it's a prize, they need to have a way of giving you what you've won without it involving you giving them something.

If they say you need to pay a "contribution" towards anything, back away quickly.

my normal approach in life is "if it sounds too good to be true, then it probsbly is".

daisychain01 · 01/03/2023 04:24

I looked up that Frank company you've given the url for and they are all over SM, they're a Consultancy (not sure whether that's a good thing or not!)

how did you enter the competition?

simplemoments · 01/03/2023 04:28

It was on a Facebook group for expats.

@FortofPud ahh good point thanks !
@daisychain01 voice of reason thankyou i am trying hard not to get too carried away about it ..

Yes @simplemoments stay calm and feet on ground - but fingers crossed for you.

If it doesn't work out, then the good thing is you won't actually have lost anything by being really careful Flowers

Monstamio · 01/03/2023 04:33

Frank is a PR agency - well known in the industry and definitely legit. Hope it's good news for you later, Op. Sounds like you're due some.

simplemoments · 01/03/2023 04:42

thank you all. I will update later when i know more fingers crossed it works out.

Do not give passport details, etc until you get relevant business numbers, bank details, tax details, etc from them so that you can verify the legitimacy of THEIR company.

Talia99 · 01/03/2023 05:43

Fingers crossed this isn’t a scam.

Some scams do deliberately use the names of legitimate companies so make sure you call the companies on numbers you’ve googled not that they’ve given you and make sure the emails look correct (no [email protected]).

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 01/03/2023 05:50

Have you checked that the Red Letter page that contacted you has the blue tick?

Isthisexpected · 01/03/2023 06:04

Assume it's a scam and make sure you contact the company themselves not any numbers they give you when they call initially. Best of luck!

Spikester · 01/03/2023 06:08

I used to work for a PR agency and they do administer competitions for their clients. Check out the phone numbers and the person you speak to on Linked In, PR co website, social media etc.

VK456 · 01/03/2023 06:22

I’ve got my fingers crossed for you!

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 01/03/2023 06:28

I've won a few competitions and have been contacted by PR teams a couple of times like this. Fingers crossed for you! If there is a name on the email maybe trying looking it up on LinkedIn to see if they work for the company?

UnfinishedBusiness · 01/03/2023 06:34

Red letter days have been around for ages. Hope you get your flight op.

MoveOnTheCards · 01/03/2023 06:38

Frank is a well established and respected PR agency, they will have organised the competition. Give them a call (you can find their number via Google or LinkedIn if you’d prefer) and congrats!

I work in the industry and have set up similar promotions in the past.

Dinersaur · 01/03/2023 06:42

They are running that comp, looks legit. Good luck!

Inkpotlover · 01/03/2023 06:51

Frank PR is a genuine and respected company, I worked with them a lot in my previous job, and as others have said, Red Letter Days is well-established too and you can buy their experiences in WHSmith's. It doesn't sound like a scam to me at all, congrats!

Spraylatter · 01/03/2023 07:10

Both well established but make sure it’s actually them, maybe prep and look up their addresses / phone numbers etc

Elderflower14 · 01/03/2023 07:12

Good Luck... Fingers 🤞

Cocochai · 01/03/2023 07:13

Don’t give them any bank details or agree to pay them anything, your address or passport details etc.

After talking to them perhaps google independently their Head Office phone number and contact them back to see if it’s legitimate.

CurlsLDN · 01/03/2023 07:35

My old boss now works at Frank, definitely legit!

Liceylicey · 01/03/2023 07:41

Hope it’s legit for you op

simplemoments · 01/03/2023 07:42

Oh sooo i spoke to my mum and she isnt feeling up to going to london. part of the promotion is that they would want to film our meet up in central london which is a good 1 and half on the train. ahh well. I sent an email explaining to the company and gave her number. She did say she might be able to get to brighton. She is 78 and I think she is feeling the loss of my brother a lot. it will be one year since he died next week...
