I'm 40 and I don't know what colour my eyes are! Photos

What do you think?

I've always thought green, but a thread last night made me think grey.

Or are they both?

Good job I've not had to give a formal description of myself to anyone - I'd sound a right numpty not knowing!

I had this conversation with my daughter this morning and she has very similar colour eyes. I called them blue/grey Hazel but she insists they are green.

Joining in on thread. Beautiful eyes - like a sunflower in the centre! 🌻

I also believed I had blue eyes until this week and also don’t know what colour mine are! Green? Grey?

@hopingforadvice Like me, your eyes seem to change depending on the light/environment. On reading, that suggests they are grey. To me, they look grey/blue and a touch of green!

See, I'm no good at this!

I like your eyes, but that's probably because they are similar to mine

I’m also voting grey.

Whats this central thing people are saying,
is that what I have?
I’ve always thought my eyes were hazel 🤔

@Mannymoomin What interesting eyes! I've not seen ones with different colours on the outer edges of the iris. Very distinctive. I'd also say hazel.

@Dontstepinthecowpat Tricky one! I would have said green. But now mine are officially grey, I would say grey was a possibility. Do yours seem to change colour? You have lovely brows as well as eyes!

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 28/02/2023 22:53

I'd say grey OP.

Mine on the other hand I say "greeny brown" or "Hazel" as its easier...

@Dipsydoodlenoodle Striking eyes! One brown, one green I'd say. But not so different that they look odd. But when you really look close, you see how unusual they are. More freckles in the green one too - beautiful!

@ShillyShallySherbet You've got me beat! I see so many colours in your eye, I couldn't pin it down to just one or two. Amazing!

Nice replies,,nice colour

I once did this on MN and simple people waded in saying the brown flecks in my green eyes meant I had a horrible liver disease they hoped I was aware of

Do it did not go as I hoped. Kept being told to go see a doctor

Sorry to hear you didn't get a nice response before @TinyCactusInAPot
Do you want to post your eyes here? This seems a friendly thread!

Since we are all posting photos of our eyes, what colour would people say mine are?

I usually put 'green' if required, but they're a very dark sort of green. They've also got weird sort of yellow veins like you'd see in piece of marble. And a brown bit. Is this hazel?

@AleynEivlys Absolutely beautiful. Definitely green. Love your eyes. The streaky bits make them even more captivating!

Anyone want to hazard a guess at mine? I'm never sure either!

@Rebel2 I'd say a pale green - I bet you have pale skin? Do you have a streak that goes all the way from pupil to outer edge? Lovely gentle colour.

I'd agree with PP and say you have central heterochromia. I have double central heterochromia too.

Cullher · 01/03/2023 12:44

Icecreamandapplepie · 28/02/2023 21:49

I think you have the central thingie too, as another poster has said.

My son has it and its very rare and very beautiful.

Are one of your parents or grandparents a redhead?

No mega redheads in the family. A small ginger/strawberry blonde/auburn streak though. My dad has the same eyes as me. My mum's are brown.

I do, pale redhead

@RosesAndHellebores I don't tan much no. I go pink and burn pretty easily. I'm very freckly.

@Dynamix Yours look like a slightly darker version of mine. So dark grey?
You are doing a great teacher stare in the photo!

@Cullher that's funny because I always thought mine were green too 😆

thymee · 01/03/2023 13:01

From an artist perspective, grey is an interesting colour because there is not really a single 'grey', grey is a mixture of colours. It can veer towards one colour or another. e.g you can have a blueish-grey, a reddish-grey, a yellowish-grey, etc.

Similarly to how the colour we call 'hazel' is actually a greenish-brown.

Sometimes colours are not in one category or another.

Your eyes are grey but they are on the blue side of grey. They're blue-grey.

I can't see much green in the photos you have posted, but that may just be the light in those photos.

Very interesting to have an artist's perspective.

I have previously thought of grey eyes as being sorting of lacking in colour, which is why I said mine were green. Now I understand grey can be much more than absence iyswim?

isthismylifenow · 01/03/2023 13:07

Your eyes seem to be similar to my dd's which change quite a bit.

When she was in pre-school they had obviously done a colour project that day as when I fetched her all the children were listed on the door under their eye colour. I noticed dd's name and mentioned the list to the teacher and asked why dd was under the section for having green eyes (I know, I know I could have just left it, but you know how it went with a pfb) . The teacher just gave me an odd look and said 'because she has green eyes' to which I said no she doesn't, they are blue (sometimes grey). She called dd over so we could inspect, and true as bob, her eyes were green! They had never been green before that day I swear 😂

Anyway, they are mostly green now, but sometimes blue and sometimes grey. One is more brown as she has a fleck similar to MM. In high school they had to do something or other in class where this question came up again, and she just put in "it depends on the day".

So I fully believe you that you are just not actually sure. Does they change when you are wearing different colour clothing?

BabyTa · 01/03/2023 13:14

Grey

Fun fact - grey is not an absence of colour at all. It is a mixture of all colours.

If you mix the primary colours together, you will get grey. For a warmer grey, add a bit more yellow - for a cooler grey, add a bit more blue, etc.

Grey is a very versatile colour :)

MyDogStoodOnABee · 01/03/2023 13:19

Olive - definitely can’t see any blue or grey

ShillyShallySherbet · 01/03/2023 16:08

@AleynEivlys your eyes are an incredible colour! I’d say Green but they are like marbles, beautiful.
