What time does your KS1 child go to bed?

Dd seems to need sooooo much sleep. If I let her have a late night (which is only 8:30!) she’s zonked the next day.

Just finished bedtime and within 5 mins she has conked out. She’ll wake around 6:30/7ish tomorrow.

Is that normal?!

7/7:30 is her normal bedtime, but it can be as early as 6/6:30 is she’s especially tired.

I’d say that’s normal. 7pm here year 1. My 8 year old goes to bed at 8pm school nights, some kids just need sleep there’s nothing wrong with it.

Fundays12 · 27/02/2023 19:05

7.15pm he is normally sound asleep by 7.30 pm after a story

Itstarts · 27/02/2023 19:06

KS1 should be getting 11-13 hours sleep a night, so what time do you need her up, then work backwards.

35965a · 27/02/2023 19:06

8-8.30pm

TheGriffle · 27/02/2023 19:06

My 5 year old year 1 child is in bed for 8pm and is asleep between 8 and 8.45. Sometimes she goes straight to sleep, sometime she faffs for ages!

PamelaDawes · 27/02/2023 19:06

6 year old goes to bed at 8 but is awake in bed until 9. There is no benefit to putting her to bed early. She is a night owl who gets dragged out of bed and lies in at the weekend. I am not a night owl. I go to bed at 9:30. It isn’t ideal.

Minerbee · 27/02/2023 19:07

What age is ks1? I think it’s quite child dependent. My 5yo has only recently started managing to go beyond ten past 7 and will often sneak in a nap if she can get away with it. The older one has always gone later.

reluctantbrit · 27/02/2023 19:12

DD was 8pm light out. But she would nap at the weekend sometimes.

It didn't work for us trying anything any earlier as we weren't home from work/childcare before 6pm and with dinner, reading, shower it was difficult.

Theelephantinthecastle · 27/02/2023 19:15

My 6 year old is in bed for 7 except for two days a week when he has later activities. He is very tired those days.

SpaceJamtart · 27/02/2023 19:19

7:30 on most days, generally earlier if they have had swimming after school- that seems to tire them out mire than anything else

Shampern · 27/02/2023 19:20

7.30 pm on school nights. Story then lights out.

MaverickSnoopy · 27/02/2023 19:24

My 6yo needs a minimum of 11 hours. She gets up at 6.30am so I aim for 7pm, knowing some nights it'll be on time and other nights later. She also has the delight of sharing with her 4yo sister who often wakes her up at 5.30am. Tonight it was lights out at 6.45pm. I'd put money on her not wanting to get out of bed in the morning and struggling to wake up. Last week she had 3 8pm bedtimes so she's catching up.

Leggingslife · 27/02/2023 19:29

7-7:30pm

Ostryga · 27/02/2023 19:42

Yes Dd is 6. Thanks so much! My friend has a 6yo who is asleep for 9pm and I started to think god why is Dd in bed so early? Seems to be perfectly normal.

Wish there was a finite amount of worrying about kids, god I’d look 15 years younger 😂

My nine year old is like that and always has been. We just let him read until he falls asleep. I love my sleep!

Random102 · 27/02/2023 20:07

My 6 year old is in his bedroom 7pm-7am. But he only sleeps around 9pm-6am.

TribeD · 27/02/2023 20:07

Bedtime wind down starts at 6.45, with the aim of being in bed, story finished and lights out by 7.30, generally she's fast asleep by 7.45.

DD gets a good 10 hours a night (she's 7) and she needs her sleep, otherwise we end up with a grumpy, tearful little girl.

RidingMyBike · 27/02/2023 20:08

Yr2 kid here and she's in bedroom with story for 7pm with lights out at 7.30pm. Apart from Brownies night when we don't get home until 7.30! She sleeps to about 7 or 7.15. Sometimes later at the weekend.

But she's always been at the top end of the recommended amount of sleep.

moleeye · 27/02/2023 20:12

Yr 3, she's 8.5 and in bed and asleep by 7pm. She's up 6.30-7 most mornings

Very active though, gymnastics, swimming, dance, she's just joined the school running club and she's also taken up roller skating!

She's always loved her bed and needed sleep.

My 3 year old however thinks sleep is for wimps 😩

Girasoli · 27/02/2023 20:39

Yr 2, gets but to bed around 9 - falls asleep around 9.30-10. Wakes up around 7.30-8 so gets 10h sleep. He struggles to fall asleep because "he's bored"/his brain has too many thoughts.

He also has lots of energy in the day, does sports/is a good walker on days out etc. I joke he used to be a spaniel in a previous life.

Pootleplum · 27/02/2023 20:42

Late one here - bed at 9, up at 8. Sleeps in at the weekend sometimes. It's ok for us! I've no desire to start my day at 6.30 am

Soubriquet · 27/02/2023 20:43

8.30 now on a school night. 9/9.30 on a weekend or school holiday

Nearly 8 and 10
