Most eaten vegetable(s) in your house?

Given the news stories about the availability of vegetables, we have just had a discussion about which vegetables we'd struggle to give up.

Mushrooms. We are a family of mushroom lovers! Luckily, we can grow those at home all year round.

What about in your house?

Yes @JuneOsborne these would be the hungry months and as part of truly seasonal, sustainable growing/eating it would be a huge adjustment that's for sure. But worth it I expect if eating local only (in global terms) is very important to you. I'm not quite at that stage yet but I'd like to get a bit closer to it. We do try to buy UK only where we can (majority of the time) but do mix it up sometimes. I'd definitely grow mushrooms, and good for your household that if it came to it you'd still be able to have something you'd otherwise really miss! Perhaps it would be quite fun and an interesting hobby to start doing so even though you don't have to yet.

Onion, sweetcorn, peppers, fine green beans, cauliflower and tenderstem broccoli.

Still able to buy bags of frozen, so not too worried about shortages atm.

Probably onions as I make a lot of onion based sauces for curry.

Then tomatoes my daughter eats them like sweets.

Winter - carrots, cabbage, cauli, sprouts, broccoli, parsnips, swede, spring greens. We grow a lot of this (I’m sick of cabbage and sprouts now).

Not winter. Salad stuff, broccoli, peppers, we grow our own salad leaves, runner beans, tomatoes.

Madamecastafiore · 26/02/2023 14:49

Aubergine, lettuce, tomato, courgette.

I'm a gannet for salad I bloody love it. DO is obsessed with my pan fried aubergine done in garlic, honey and soy sauce. He'd eat it forever if he could.

Peas, onions, broccoli are the main ones for me.
DH eats a lot of lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes but I'm not that keen unless the cucumber is for Pimms Blush.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 26/02/2023 15:37

For me and dd, beetroot. Dh it would be potatoes and for ds raw carrot.

EveryLittleWish · 26/02/2023 15:43

My kids love mushrooms too! I personally love broccoli the best and if we are having it for dinner I buy extra because I will eat an entire head to myself . But the most eaten vegetable overall is easily ….ONIONS!

piedbeauty · 26/02/2023 15:58

Broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, peas, cauliflower...

Xenia · 26/02/2023 16:04

We all eat a lot. One son is vegan and the other is almost and they eat loads of mushrooms which I never eat as I hate them. I think we have such a variety that if one is short there is usually an alternative. I eat a lot of red peppers so was glad to see them at Waitrose yesterday after a period without them. I hate tomatoes. My son has a lot of them and he and I have a lot of spinach and he has a lot of broccoli. We both eat onions a fair bit - my two sons probably more than I do. They have a lot of carrots, peas, frozen sweet corn.

I love aubergine, but it's only a hit with half the house. Tell me more about your pan fried aubergine dish please @IDontWantToBeAPie
