Will I ever be able to watch Moana's granny dying without crying???

For info, I am an actual adult with a functional life and, generally, a good grip on my emotions!! Not usually a crier. Don't even cry at Comic Relief. I have a 6 year old so have seen Moana approximately 10,000 times and it still gets me!

Turning Red has me sobbing too, it’s the whole mother/daughter thing!

When woody leaves his gang to go be with Bo and the lost toys in Toy Story 4 is the saddest thing I have, or ever will, see on television!

RagingWoke · 25/02/2023 21:28

Every damn time.
I cry at a lot of films though. First time watching coco I genuinely cried so hard I got a headache. My 3yo broke his little heart at the paw patrol movie and now that makes me well up too.

My 8yo has no such issues, we watched bridge to Terabithia and nothing. Same with wakanda forever, I was in bits!

Once a scene gets ya, that's you for life.

I tear up at the thought of simba saying "dad get up"

@Spinxsta

"Coco" is a beautiful story.

It is based on the Mexican holiday called, "Dia de los Muertos" or "Day of the Dead".

In the culture, Mexicans have a joyful celebration to commemorate and remember loved ones who have died. "Ofrendas" are a sort of shrine or altar that people make in their homes with photos of their loved ones and they surround the altars with the deceased's favorite things, food and drinks and marigolds. On the actual night, whole families go to the gravesites, take the "ofrenda" and celebrate the loved ones. There's always music and laughter. The idea is that they encourage the souls of the loved ones to hear the prayers and feel the love of their families.

I am a Mexican-American (my father and all four of my grandparents were born and raised in Mexico) and this is a huge part of my culture. "Coco", the film, deals with our culture quite sensitively and shows the world the vibrancy of our culture. The story is especially beautiful for me because my father was a professional mariachi for over 50 years, which is an important part of the story of "Coco". I am always in a puddle of tears because my wonderful father died 12 years ago and the story revolving around mariachi's is so close to me.

It is wonderful and I highly recommend that you watch it and learn about the beautiful Mexican culture, get immersed in a wonderful story and yes, you will cry many tears.

The bit in Cars when Lightning McQueen pushes the older car over the finish line. Watched it when pregnant and bawled my eyes out, gets me every single time now.

Cars is so underrated imo. The central message at its most basic seems to be “don’t be a dick” which is a pretty good motto to live by.

TerrysGotPeeves · 25/02/2023 22:10

The Land Before Time. We watched it in school when I was 5. Three decades later I'm still traumatised by it. Have never watched it again, even thinking about it makes me feel sick.

That's the EXACT bit that got me when I was pregnant!

I could sit through adverts for sick donkeys and world famine but a frigging cartoon about cars got me! WTF

Tangled gets me every time!! The bit where the guard runs in and tells her dad they found her, literal tears thinking about it!!

Meredusoleil · 25/02/2023 22:25

Most Disney films make me well up or cry. The Lion King. Frozen. Encanto. Moana. Brave. Aladdin. Even more recently, Matilda the musical!

Also cried pretty much throughout The Greatest Showman and whilst listening to the soundtrack too 😥

If you can watch the first 10 minutes of Up and not cry, you're dead inside. I crumble every time.

This. Even the music sets me off.

Cars is my all time favourite film. I loved Cars 3 too and cried at both of them.

But the film that I cried most at is Inside Out. The bit with Bing Bong ‘take her to the moon for me’ 😭😭😭

I was in the cinema watching Inside out with the DC. When Bing Bong disappeared, the little boy asked his mam where he went, and she replied "he's gone to a better place". Completely set me off, I was a blubbering mess.

I can't watch a certain episode of Futurama, the one with Fry's dog. I was pregnant with DC1 when I first watched it and sobbed for hours afterwards. DH thought I was having some sort of breakdown. I couldn't talk about it for years without crying, DC think it's hilarious to mention it every now and again.

There’s also a short on Netflix called Kitbull which my DS decided to watch at about 6am one morning and I was NOT emotionally prepared for it. It’s lovely, I was a wreck.

This is so true, I’m unmoved by most things but apparently some cars having a race gets me right in the feels 😂

You make it to granny dying?? I well up at

🎶 See the line where the sky meets the sea, It calls me🎶

Love Moana, actually watched it with DD last night for the first time in a while. Dd fell asleep and I carried on 😆

DCINightingale · 26/02/2023 08:49

There are several moments in Bluey that get me. Anyone who wants a good cry should watch the episode Sleepytime (it's also just amazing)

So often with these things its the music, a big swell of music and I'm gone. The fire monster bit in Moana, the singing is so wonderful it gets me every time. I hadn't thought about granny but it probably will get me next time now it's in my head.
