My 11yo gets really excited when I let her reorganise a kitchen cupboard!!

Please say I'm not the only one with kids who like strange things?

Dd loves to sit and clean her feet/between the toes with a wet wipe (she’s 3)

quickbathroombreak · 25/02/2023 21:48

Cleaning the bath - definitely a win!

MikeLitoriss · 25/02/2023 22:07

@CinderellaFant
My Ds is 5 and is the same! He loves on a Sunday when I let him sort and fold the big pile of laundry that I've been putting off doing 😂
Hes messy with everything else though! Lol

My three year old is obsessed with watching things come out of shells on you tube. He gets frustrated if there's to much preamble by the people doing it though - starts saying 'it boring. I want to see inside!'

Ah yes the YouTube fixations, we've had Crufts, would just sit and watch hours of old dog shows??? And the one that I can totally understand because it is kind of mesmerising, people imitating a hydraulic press crushing stuff, like this:

Galadali · 25/02/2023 22:36

DS13 gets very cross if I accidentally let the coffee pod slide into its caddy before he can come and supervise. At 69p a pop we like to squeeze every drop of enjoyment out of them.
DS8 likes the usual 8yo stuff of watching 18yo American kids playing video games or talking about world records. However, he also likes "french" dancing, which is slightly unusual and not to be discussed on a public forum.

SpikyHatePotato · 25/02/2023 22:40

Both my nieces, when younger, loved my Mum's button tin. Tip them all out, count them, sort into groups or colours or sizes. Hours of fun!

almondflake · 26/02/2023 07:47

@SarahAndQuack my husband loves sucking prawn heads too ,when we go abroad he loves fresh prawns just to suck on the heads ,I'm pulling a face even writing this . His particular favourite is the fish bones in tinned salmon ,he gets great enjoyment from opening a tin and seeing how many bones are in there .🤢
He's very easy to feed and always looks forward to meal times .

My Son eats lemons. I've never known anyone eat them. We buy them for recipes, zest & juice etc.
He is the only kid at school that has a lemon in his lunchbox.

IHeartGeneHunt · 26/02/2023 08:00

4 year old DD loves taxis and post vans, mini buses, new version trams and police cars. We have to keep a tally of how many of each we see every day.

PortiasBiscuit · 26/02/2023 08:02

Twice now, my eldest daughter has upended at least 3kg of Hama beads and spent a huge number of hours sorting them into colours. She is 17.

PortiasBiscuit · 26/02/2023 08:03

My youngest enjoys Pot Noodle.

When my DS was small he could spent hours stirring a bucket of water with a stick. In complete silence. He also tried to get his DGFs cat to speak by reciting his name and then the cat's with plenty of encouragement.

And pointing out fire trucks, police cars to people on the bus. I miss his little running commentaries.

PuttingDownRoots · 26/02/2023 08:23

This has reminded me of the fascination mine both had when small for bin lorries.

The country we lived when they were 4ish had three collections a week, at 6am. They would run through our room ontonour balcony to wave to it...

Then when a bit older my younger one was so engrossed one morning in watching the lorry (it was one that picked up the bins it self with an arm as it drove along) she failed to notice her massive red school bus had pulled up beside her.

Thinking of letting the 11yo at the baking equipment cupboard today!!

DS19 loves to take the garden leaves. We definitely make the most of it and shout "LEAVES" any there's some on the ground, invariably he'll come running down and sort them immediately.

90yomakeuproom · 26/02/2023 08:32

My 3 year old is absolutely obsessed with IKEA. He asks to go and just goes so excitable in there. It's the little rooms and beds I think!

WorkingFromHomeRocks · 26/02/2023 08:35

I had an eighties costume from university, complete with leg warmers and a head band. DS used to love wearing that around the house after he discovered it hidden in a cupboard!

MargaretThursday · 26/02/2023 08:38

Ds has had some interesting interests over the years.
Ants he sent hours in the garden watching them
Washing the car was a more useful one
He wanted an air raid shelter in the garden for a while
And aged about 4-6yo the Concorde crash. He could tell you every detail, and would do as his teachers found on a school trip where as a treat the class were allowed to go and sit in the seats of an old Concorde. Some of his classmates didn't totally appreciated it!

Currently his interests are football, budgies and tanks.
He's trying to persuade me to get a tank as our next family car.

My DS loves to nuzzle my armpits when they are sweaty.

fruitbrewhaha · 26/02/2023 08:43

My Dd now 13, when she was a toddler loved bin lorries. She’d get so excited if we saw one driving around.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/02/2023 09:23

Sorting out my sock drawer. DD(11) is fascinated by how many different types of sock I have.

Flags - both my dc have this massive knowledge of flags. When they were little we had (actually still have) a jigsaw of flags of the world. Then DS inherited a but book about the history of different flags, the symbology, the military origins etc etc etc (like my dad, the benefactor, ds is very interested in military history).

The dc have conversations that go like "So is got a narrow yellow stripe at the top and blue stars next to the pole...".

With ds it was fire engines. When he was about 4, but not with me, I was driving a very important (expensive!) colleague to a site visit and pointed out "look , a fire engine in a hurry".

I used to love doing this too but DS2 (the bus depot fan, also has a favourite tram and a not-my-favourite tram and will cheer/scream when the right/wrong one turns up which is a bit annoying) finds buttons horrifying and won't even be in the room if I suggest tipping out the button jar!

ImAvingOops · 26/02/2023 11:58

My now 25 year old had a thing about shop names when he was about 3 - used to get very excited if he saw a Tesco lorry or a Boots points card! Could keep him happy for ages by giving him all the shop loyalty cards to play with

JudgementalCentipede · 26/02/2023 12:16

My DS(8) likes to cook bacon as he loves the sizzling sound!

Do for his birthday wanted a lemon rather than a cake. We bought him one and put a candle in, which he blew out, and he then ate the lemon. He was 11.
