Give me 10 new things to try that'll open up neural pathways in the brain!

Or even just some ideas that will challenge me for the rest of the year

I've decided to do something different for the next 10 months. Something to take me out of my comfort zone and challenge me a bit.

A new skill every month

I've already mastered how to hula hoop and I'm currently reading something that I wouldn't normally ever consider

Thinking about learning how to do a Rubik's cube.

Any suggestions please?

Definite no to a language or a sport. Purely because I would like to be able to master it (or at least get the hang of it!) within the month

Thanks in advance

Meditation perhaps? Drawing realistic human faces?

ukholidayseeker · 23/02/2023 20:16

Musical instrument?

Look up "smart games" on Amazon.

Circus skills like diablo, yo-yo or juggling?

ukholidayseeker · 23/02/2023 20:16

Sign language?

SoCunningYouCanStickATailOnItAndCallItAFox · 23/02/2023 20:18

Do a short course on pottery?

CharlotteOwlFace · 23/02/2023 20:20

I like some of these. Thank you

Crochet or knitting
Stand up comedy (open mic type event)

Hawkins003 · 23/02/2023 20:21

Tony buzan and his books on mind maps ect are quite good

Brian Tracy does some good audio books too

Newlifeintherain · 23/02/2023 20:22

Macrame, mastering some of the knots can be a challenge.

CharlotteOwlFace · 23/02/2023 20:23

@audemoray reading that open mic comedy thing literally made my stomach flip! That's terrifying Grin

I've never crocheted anything in my life. I don't think I could do it. So that's going on the list as it's a challenge but one that - if I can do it - wouldn't take long

Computer programming or something like a raspberry pi project.

Gardening - redesign a small plot or start off some grow your own pots.

Couchpotato3 · 23/02/2023 20:25

Craft activities - there are so many to choose from - you could get a beginner's kit from somewhere from Hobbycraft. Knitting, crochet, sewing, felting, embroidery, cross-stitch, paper crafts, scrap-booking?

Something arty? Painting, drawing, sculpting

Writing? Write a blog or a journal? Try some fiction, poetry, different styles of writing?

Cooking? Baking? Learning to decorate cakes? Learn to make soups, curries, pastries?

Gardening? Identifying trees or plants or birds?

Learn all the capital cities in the world.
Or all the flags for every country in the world.

EmmaEmerald · 23/02/2023 20:26

I’m learning keyboard
I never read music before
it’s using a bit of brain I didn’t know I had.

I also want to try chess and card games but I realise most people have covered that.

I used to be good at sudoku, must do that again.

AlisonDonut · 23/02/2023 20:27

Do you have a decent camera? Learn how to take photos properly without using automatic settings.

Lonecatwithkitten · 23/02/2023 20:30

Learn a new language. Even just a few phrases.

WhatCanWeDoNext · 23/02/2023 20:33

Logic puzzles - like this sort of thing

Give me 10 new things to try that'll open up neural pathways in the brain!
Martinisarebetterdirty · 23/02/2023 20:35

Listen to different kinds of music than you ordinarily would.

Snozzlemaid · 23/02/2023 20:41

Learn sign language?

AuntieStella · 23/02/2023 21:06

Wordle every morning.

Get an actual broadsheet newspaper once a week and read your news slowly. And learn to do the cryptic crossword.

Learn some table magic tricks.

First aid course.

Dance class - try a new style (I did ceroc for a while, it was fun)

Kayaking course? Or sailing (depends where you are and if affordable)

Join you local history society, and find out about your area

pippinsleftleg · 23/02/2023 21:09

This is a great idea. I’m always picking up new interests but never take the time to master them.

Colourinsidethelines · 23/02/2023 21:11

Sign language would be hard in a month, I would try Makaton instead. It’s a communication aid rather than a complete language like BSL and there is a core vocab that you could learn in a month!

spidereggs · 23/02/2023 21:12

Do you have a fear?

So for example spiders, move two outside.

Horses, spend a day with them.

So something that scares you I suppose

Colourinsidethelines · 23/02/2023 21:12

Also, cross stitch. You could learn the basics of that in a month definitely!

PleasantZen · 23/02/2023 21:13

Learn to write or draw with your non dominant hand.

chocolateisavegetable · 23/02/2023 21:16

I second Makaton

Sudoku?
