Or even just some ideas that will challenge me for the rest of the year

I've decided to do something different for the next 10 months. Something to take me out of my comfort zone and challenge me a bit.

A new skill every month

I've already mastered how to hula hoop and I'm currently reading something that I wouldn't normally ever consider

Thinking about learning how to do a Rubik's cube.

Any suggestions please?

Definite no to a language or a sport. Purely because I would like to be able to master it (or at least get the hang of it!) within the month

Thanks in advance

Bloody great thread!

I recently became a quiz master - once a week, couple of hours work hosting a quiz. Well paid too! The company also supplies the quiz so all I have to do is host. Might be fun?

I just googled to see if that was something I could do and I don’t even understand the explanation! 😂

I'm fascinated by the idea that you can learn to do cryptic crosswords - late DF used to do the DT one and late aunt used to do the big on in the Times at the weekend. I just assumed that like mathematics, my brain wasn't wired that way (also been inspired by another thread to pick up maths key skills and sort out all that stuff that totally flummoxed me as a kid- like fractions).

Learn one phrase in different languages - one ofy friends knows "it's raining" on 10 languages

Learn basics of Esperanto.

My mum is really good at these! My husband is trying to get the hang of them to, and it's interesting to hear her explain the thought processes. She has been doing them a very long time, always in the same paper, and she said you get to know the how different individuals who create these puzzles think too.

I've always felt similarly to you, but now in my late 50s I'm trying to learn things that I used to think you either could or couldn't do. I'm thinking cryptic crosswords are a step too far at the moment though!

I do the Times quick cryptic every day in under 15 minutes (normally). Hate the times, literally only subscribe for the crossword.

A short but satisfying one - learn how to do the cups song from Pitch Perfect.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/02/2023 09:26

Yes, I know you said know languages but I'm adding my voice to those suggesting the (British, if you are in GB) sign language alphabet. You won't master BSL in a month, but you can master the alphabet, it uses the language and dexterity parts of your brain, and it could be very useful.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/02/2023 09:27

'No languages', haven't a clue how that homophone crept in.

Meditation perhaps? Drawing realistic human faces?

I read that as faeces 😳

NewYearNewUsername23 · 27/02/2023 11:47

What about trying a reverse colouring book? Not tried one myself yet but want to and it looks challenging. Basically each page has patterns and colour and you have to outline it
