‘Oh’ U ‘zero’ 7

toomuchlaundry · 23/02/2023 17:09

Are your registration documents clearer?

LubaLuca · 23/02/2023 17:09

It's two letters then two numbers.

Letter O letter U number 0 number 7

BreviloquentBastard · 23/02/2023 17:10

Letter O, then number Zero. It's so stupid that they don't differentiate them in the font!

LubaLuca · 23/02/2023 17:10

You'd need to know this for sorting out your insurance as well, I'm surprised it's taken you this long to check!

Marmite27 · 23/02/2023 17:10

I thought ‘0’ (the letter) wasn’t used in registrations for this reason

Pinkypurplecloud · 23/02/2023 17:10

Number plates are a standard format - letter letter, number number.

Thats O (letter O) U 0 (zero) 7

ShiverOfSharks · 23/02/2023 17:12

You just have to remember the standard reg format - LetterLetterNumberNumber LetterLetterLetter.

PatriciaHolm · 23/02/2023 17:12

Assuming it's not a personal plate (given if it was you would know what it said!) then It's a standard format, the first 2 are letters and the second 2 numbers - 07 relate to the first registration of the car, which would be March-Aug 2007.

Solittletimeforwine · 23/02/2023 17:12

Both of those are zeros. Not letters. The letter o is rounder than the number. Plus, the key fact is the letter o is not used in number plates.

So it is like this O or 0. So it’s defo two zeros.

monomatapea · 23/02/2023 17:13

OU0 but it's really shit the way the font is

toomuchlaundry · 23/02/2023 17:15

According to Google OU relates to Oxford area where car first registered

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 23/02/2023 17:15

@Solittletimeforwine Rubbish!
Shiverofsharks explains it perfectly.

It's letter O, letter U then digit 0, digit 7.

Nope, first two are letters. OU is the prefix for Oxford registrations.

The first 2 are letters, they denote town/are car is registered the 2nd are numbers denoting the year

O is used. It denotes a car first registered in the Oxford region -

BarbaraofSeville · 23/02/2023 17:27

I'm wondering if the plate isn't legal.

Eg if the previous owner had a replacement plate made and they used 0 instead of O or vice versa as I thought they would be distinguishable, or perhaps not, because the format is standard letter letter number number then three letters. So the first character has to be 0 and the third one O even if you can't actually see any difference in the fonts?

Just2MoreSeasons · 23/02/2023 17:27

You are all amazing - Thankyou Thankyou.. im not a million miles from Oxford and 07 sounds about right for the age of the car.

My DP sorts the Mot and insurance and seems to have no issues in reading it ...but I have to ask him every time I need tkk on 'read' it - just can't remember < I'm an idiot I know>. But now you're all explained it I will remember. Still think it's stupid that they look the same though!

Can you put the registration in on the government’s MOT checker tool and see which is the correct one according to their records? www.check-mot.service.gov.uk

SeaDee · 23/02/2023 17:31

It's an Oxford car from March to August 2007

Letter letter number number

Just2MoreSeasons · 23/02/2023 17:31

Thankyou Indigoe.
I've just done that and it is indeed letter O and then zero

I agree that the font on the number plate shows both as zeros but suspect the registration documents would show the letter O. Maybe a dogdy personalised/illegal number plate.

Flammulina · 23/02/2023 17:35

Ignore my last comment! It looks like O and 0 are identical, which is a bit rubbish!
