Letter O, then number Zero. It's so stupid that they don't differentiate them in the font!

There’s really no need. They use a standard format: two letters, two numbers, three letters

Both of those are zeros. Not letters. The letter o is rounder than the number. Plus, the key fact is the letter o is not used in number plates.

So it is like this O or 0. So it’s defo two zeros.

O has been used in number plates since 2001 - the Millennium formatting. It wasn’t used in the prefix or suffix formatting for years before that though. As PPs have said it denotes that the car was first registered in the Oxford area - I’ve got one myself

It was. I had a car with JOF in it. Registered in Birmingham.

Sorry OP but that's a terrible reg! I would feel like you do.

NashvilleQueen · 23/02/2023 17:52

Is it not on your V5?

SpringIsSpringing23 · 23/02/2023 17:58

Surely you know that car reg numbers, when they changed in 2001, are Letter Letter Number Number Letter Letter Letter?? Then 2 numbers are the year of registration,. If registered march-auguat (so 07 was registered 2007) and 5,6 or 7 if september-february. So 2007 would be 57, 2017 67 and 2022 is 72.

Why do people state absolute nonsense as fact on here 😂

SpringIsSpringing23 · 23/02/2023 18:02

Reminds me of when I had to give me postcode for something. Ends in 0NT. I always say "oh" for zero. Woman: is that the letter or number 0? Erm its a postcode. Everyone knows the format of postcodes.

SpringIsSpringing23 · 23/02/2023 18:03

And can somebody tell my car its reg is not valid because my first 2 letters are VO which according to somebody above, isn't used.

Just2MoreSeasons · 23/02/2023 18:03

I agree the font for both of them seems not to show one different from the other. It passed its MOT though so I don't think it's illegal.

Two letters indicating where it was sold, , followed by the year it was registered, then three letters. It's not random.

Not true.

My last vehicle was OV so they do use the letter O.

Agree it's letters OU numbers 07

O is used, and has been since 1903!

Oakbeam · 23/02/2023 18:09

I think some people may be getting confused with the old style prefix and suffix registration numbers that were introduced in 1963. They did not use O for the suffix or prefix but did elsewhere in the number.

Oakbeam · 23/02/2023 18:09

Could elsewhere in the number, I should have said.
