Do people not carry cash or bank cards anymore?

Recently sold an item on FB Marketplace. The buyer was annoyed that I insisted they had to pay in cash (they offered me a bank transfer) as they said they didn't have cash or a bank card with them (I did tell them before they came to collect; the annoyance wasn't due to turning up and then finding out).

So ... got to wondering whether lots of people don't routinely carry cash or cards any more but just rely on using their phone.

@Saltywalruss I'd usually rather have my phone as well tbh. Plus the r tube and buses don't take cash.

Plus a small power bank is the size of a USB and clips to my phone @Saltywalruss they're not the size of a wallet anymore.

I rarely use cash these days. If someone was buying stuff on FB marketplace for more a few pounds I'd prefer a transfer. But recently when I was buying a few things myself I checked in advance and some people did want cash so I got someout specially. Silly not to ask before turning up.

I've never used my phone (feel so old!) But I use a mixture of cash and card - mostly card. If I bought something off marketplace I'd expect to use cash. I'm a bit wary of PayPal. My DDs PayPal account was hacked and someone ordered a takeaway from justeat using it

Oh! I am obviously not up to date!

However, even USB stick is bigger than a card or £20 note. So I don't understand people who say that they use their phone to pay in order to "save space" or "travel light ".

No. I never carry cash. No places near me take it so I have no use for it. If I'm just nipping out I wouldn't necessarily have my bank card on me either. I've always got my phone on me and can pay with that. I don't have a purse or handbag so it's not secured nature for me to take it out, I'd only take it if I needed it. I can however get cash out my bank via my phone.

I rarely use cash. Even my home services, such as the window cleaner, I pay through PayPal. I take £20 a month out of the bank for a meeting I attend weekly. If I didn't attend that, I wouldn't get cash out. I use a mixture of cards and my phone to pay for goods
